REAR AXLE HUB ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

Tip:
  • Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side.

  • The following procedure is for the LH side.

PROCEDURE

  1. REMOVE REAR WHEEL

  2. LOOSEN HEXALOBULAR SCREW

  3. REMOVE REAR BRAKE DRUM SUB-ASSEMBLY

  4. INSPECT REAR AXLE HUB BEARING LOOSENESS

    1. C302547

      Using a dial indicator, check for looseness near the center of the rear axle hub.

      Maximum Looseness

      0.05 mm (0.00196 in.)

      Note:
      • Ensure that the dial indicator is set perpendicular to the measurement surface.

      • Keep the magnet of the dial indicator away from the rear speed sensor.

      Tip:

      If the looseness exceeds the maximum, replace the rear axle hub and bearing assembly.

  5. INSPECT REAR AXLE HUB RUNOUT

    1. C302548

      Using a dial indicator, check the runout near the outer circumference of the rear axle hub.

      Maximum Runout

      0.07 mm (0.00275 in.)

      Note:
      • Ensure that the dial indicator is set perpendicular to the measurement surface.

      • Keep the magnet of the dial indicator away from the rear speed sensor.

      Tip:

      If the runout exceeds the maximum, replace the rear axle hub and bearing assembly.

  6. INSTALL REAR BRAKE DRUM SUB-ASSEMBLY

  7. ADJUST REAR DRUM BRAKE SHOE CLEARANCE

  8. FULLY TIGHTEN HEXALOBULAR SCREW

  9. INSTALL REAR WHEEL
