CLUTCH SYSTEM GENERAL GENERAL

  1. OUTLINE

    1. C550 and C551 Manual Transaxle Models

      1. A dry type single plate clutch operated by a cable is used.

      2. To prevent the transaxle from making gear lash noise as a result of a fluctuations in engine speed, the clutch disc is provided with pre-dampers.

      3. A clutch release mechanism is used for the purpose of minimizing slippage that is associated with the wear of the clutch disc.

      4. A new clutch pedal structure, which increases the clutch pedal full stroke (the non-depressed clutch pedal position gradually becomes higher as the clutch disc wear increases), is adopted, enabling the driver to be aware of clutch maintenance requirements. Additionally, the allowable clutch disc wear before maintenance is required has been increased.

    2. C553A Multi-mode Manual Transaxle Models

      1. A dry type single plate clutch is used.

      2. Instead of a cable type clutch system, a clutch actuator that operates the clutch electrically is used.

      3. An LCC (Load Controlled Clutch cover) mechanism is used in the clutch cover to mechanically adjust the pressure plate height, which changes with the wear of the clutch disc facing.

        Tip:

When performing a clutch replacement on models with the C553A multi-mode manual transaxle, make sure to replace the clutch disc and clutch cover as a set. Similarly, when removing, installing, or replacing the clutch disc, clutch cover, release bearing, release fork and lever, and clutch actuator, make sure to reset the multi-mode manual transaxle system.

    3. MA Manual Transaxle Models

      1. A dry type single plate clutch operated by a cable is used.

  2. MAIN FEATURES

    1. New Clutch Pedal Structure (C550 and C551 Manual Transaxle Models)

      1. A conventional clutch pedal has free play which is created by the transmission mechanism. The new clutch mechanism reduces this free play and has a construction in which the clutch pedal full stroke increases in accordance with wear of the clutch disc.

    2. LCC (Load Controlled Clutch Cover) Mechanism (Models with C553A Multi-mode Manual Transaxle)

      1. In a conventional clutch cover, the clutch operating load increases with the wear of the clutch disc facing. The LCC (Load Controlled Clutch Cover) for the M-MT is added as an adjustment mechanism to a conventional clutch cover. The LCC (Load Controlled Clutch Cover) limits any increase in the clutch operating load, thus it is possible to miniaturize the motor of the clutch actuator.
