BACK WINDOW GLASS INSTALLATION

Tech Tips

Use the same procedure for the LHD and RHD vehicle.

PROCEDURE


  1. INSTALL NO. 1 BACK WINDOW MOULDING


    1. A004IA1E01

      Using a brush or sponge, coat the application area of a new No. 1 back window moulding with Primer (3M N-200), as shown in the illustration.

      Install the new double sided tape onto the No. 1 back window moulding, as shown in the illustration.

    3. Using a brush or sponge, coat the application area of a new No. 1 back window moulding with Primer (3M N-200).

      Note


      • Do not apply too much primer.

      • Allow the primer coating to dry for 3 minutes or more.

      • Throw away any leftover primer.

      Tech Tips

      If an area other than specified is coated by accident, wipe off the primer with a clean piece of cloth before it dries.

      Using a roller, install the new No. 1 back window moulding onto the back window glass, as shown in the illustration.

      Note

      Install the No. 1 back window moulding firmly so that it does not sag.

      Using a roller, install the No. 1 back window moulding onto the back window glass, as shown in the illustration.

      Note

      Install the No. 1 back window moulding firmly so that it does not sag.

  2. INSTALL BACK WINDOW GLASS ADHESIVE DAM


    1. Using a brush or sponge, coat the application area of a new back window glass adhesive dams with Primer (3M-N200).

      Note


      • Allow the primer coating to dry for 3 minutes or more.

      • Do not apply too much primer.

      • Do not keep any of the opened Primer for later use.

      Tech Tips

      If any area other than the specified is coated by accident, wipe off the primer with a clean piece of cloth before it dries.

    2. Install the new back window glass adhesive dams onto the back window glass, as shown in the illustration.

  3. INSTALL BACK WINDOW GLASS

      Position the back window glass.


      1. Using suction cups, place the back window glass in the correct position.

      2. Check that the whole contact surface of the back window glass rim is perfectly even.

      3. Align the matchmarks on the back window glass and vehicle body.

        Note

        Check that the back window glass stoppers are correctly attached to the vehicle body.

      4. Remove the back window glass.

      Using a brush, coat the installation surface on the vehicle body with Primer (sunstar #435-40).

      Note


      • Do not coat the adhesive with Primer.

      • Do not apply too much primer.

      If any area other than the specified is coated by accident, wipe off the primer with a clean piece of cloth before it dries.

    3. Using a brush or sponge, coat the adhesive application area with Primer (3M N-200).

      Note

    4. Apply adhesive to the glass.

      Toyota Genuine Windshield Glass Adhesive or equivalent

        Cut off the tip of the cartridge nozzle, as shown in the illustration.

      2. Load the sealer gun with the cartridge.

      3. Apply adhesive to the back window glass, as shown in the illustration.

      Apply adhesive tape, etc. to the back window glass and the body panel section, and use a pen to apply matching marks for use when installing (when using the new back window glass).


      1. Using suction cups, position the back window glass so that the matchmarks are aligned, and press it in gently along the rim.

        Note


        • Check that the back window glass stopper are attached to the vehicle body correctly.

        • Check the clearance between the vehicle body and back window glass.

        • After the primer on the body is dried (about 10 minutes), install the back window glass.

      2. Lightly press the front surface of the back window glass to ensure that the back window glass is securely fit to the vehicle body.

        Tech Tips

        Press the glass with force of 98 N (10 kgf, 22.0 lbf) or more.

      3. Using a scraper, remove any excess or protruding adhesive.

        Tech Tips

        Apply adhesive onto the back window glass rim.

      4. Hold the back window glass using protective tape until the applied adhesive becomes hard.

        Tech Tips

        Follow the instructions in the owner's manuals provided by each adhesive manufacturer regarding the minimum required drying time after applying adhesive, and the time required before driving.

    6. Connect each connector.

  4. INSPECT WATER LEAK


    1. After the adhesive has hardened, apply water from the outside of the vehicle. Check that no water leaks into the cabin.

    2. If water leaks into the cabin, allow the water to dry and add adhesive.

    3. Remove the protective tape.
