REAR AXLE HUB BOLT REPLACEMENT

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

Note:
  • When the brake pedal is first depressed after replacing the brake pads or pushing back the disc brake piston, DTC C1214 may be output. As there is no malfunction, clear the DTC.

  • While the auxiliary battery is connected, even if the power switch is off, the brake control system activates when the brake pedal is depressed or the door courtesy switch is turned on. Therefore, even if only brake shoes are to be removed and installed, be sure to perform the Disable Brake Control procedure and disconnect the cable from the negative (-) terminal of the auxiliary battery before beginning work.

Tip:
  • Use the same procedure for the RH and LH sides.

  • The procedure listed below is for the LH side.

PROCEDURE

  1. PRECAUTION

    Note:

    After turning the power switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal notice before proceeding with work.

  2. DISABLE BRAKE CONTROL

  3. REMOVE REAR WHEEL

  4. DISCONNECT REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY LH

  5. REMOVE REAR DISC

  6. REMOVE REAR AXLE HUB BOLT LH

    1. Temporarily install 2 nuts and 2 washers to the rear axle hub bolt LH as shown in the illustration.

    2. Using SST and a brass bar or an equivalent tool to hold the hub and bearing assembly, remove the rear axle hub bolt LH.

  7. INSTALL REAR AXLE HUB BOLT LH

    1. Install a washer and nut to a new rear axle hub bolt LH as shown in the illustration.

    2. Using a brass bar or an equivalent tool to hold the hub and bearing assembly, install the rear axle hub bolt LH by tightening the nut.

  8. INSTALL REAR DISC

  9. CONNECT REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY LH

  10. INSPECT AND ADJUST PARKING BRAKE

  11. INSTALL REAR WHEEL

  12. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE AUXILIARY BATTERY TERMINAL

    1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal and tighten the nut.
