DESCRIPTION

The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) is used to indicate vehicle malfunctions detected by the ECM.

The MIL operation can be checked visually. When the ignition switch is turned to ON, the MIL should be illuminated and should then turn off after the engine is started.

When there is a communication malfunction between the ECM and combination meter assembly, the ECM stores this DTC.

Note:

Inspect the fuses for circuits related to this system before performing the following procedure.

PROCEDURE

  1. CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P1642 OR P263B)

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.

    5. Check for DTCs.

      Powertrain > Engine > Trouble Codes

      Tip:

      If any DTCs other than P1642 or P263B are output, troubleshoot those DTCs first.

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY - ECM)

    1. Disconnect the combination meter assembly connector.

    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

  4. CHECK WHETHER DTC OUTPUT RECURS (DTC P1642 OR P263B)

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Clear the DTCs.

      Powertrain > Engine > Clear DTCs

    5. Turn the ignition switch off and wait for a few minutes.

    6. Perform the drive test.

    7. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    8. Turn the GTS on.

    9. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.

    10. Check for DTCs.

      Powertrain > Engine > Trouble Codes
