PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM ADJUSTMENT

PROCEDURE

1. INSPECT PARKING BRAKE LEVER TRAVEL

   1. Firmly pull the parking brake lever.

   2. Release the parking brake lever lock and return it to its off position.

   3. 

      Slowly pull the parking brake lever to the fully applied position, counting the number of clicks.

      Parking brake lever travel

      5 to 8 notches at 200 N (20 kgf, 45.0 lbf)

      If the parking brake lever travel is not as specified, adjust the parking brake lever travel.

2. ADJUST PARKING BRAKE LEVER TRAVEL

   1. Remove the upper console panel sub-assembly.

      Click here

   2. Release the parking brake lever lock and return it to its off position.

   3. 

      *1	Lock Nut
      *2	No. 2 Wire Adjusting Nut

      Loosen the lock nut and No. 2 wire adjusting nut to completely release the parking brake cable.

   4. Start the engine and depress the brake pedal several times.

   5. Turn the ignition switch off.

   6. Turn the No. 2 wire adjusting nut until the parking brake lever travel is corrected to be within the specified range.

      Parking brake lever travel

      5 to 8 notches at 200 N (20 kgf, 45.0 lbf)

   7. Using a wrench or an equivalent tool, hold the No. 2 wire adjusting nut and tighten the lock nut.

      6.0 N*m

      61 kgf*cm

      53 in.*lbf

   8. Operate the parking brake lever 3 to 4 times, and check the parking brake lever travel.

   9. Check that the parking brake does not drag.

   10. Install the upper console panel sub-assembly.

3. INSPECT REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER OPERATION LEVER AND STOPPER CLEARANCE

   1. 

      *a	Operation Lever
      *b	Stopper

      for Torsion Beam Type Suspension:

      1. Release the parking brake lever and check that the clearance between the rear disc brake cylinder operation lever and the stopper is as specified below.

         Clearance

         2.0 mm (0.0787 in.) or less

         If the clearance is not as specified, replace the rear disc brake cylinder assembly.

   2. 

      *a	Operation Lever
      *b	Stopper

      for Double Wishbone Type Suspension:

      1. Release the parking brake lever and check that the clearance between the rear disc brake cylinder operation lever and the stopper is as specified below.

         Clearance

         2.0 mm (0.0787 in.) or less

         If the clearance is not as specified, replace the rear disc brake cylinder assembly.

4. INSPECT BRAKE WARNING LIGHT

   1. When operating the parking brake lever, check that the brake warning light illuminates.

      Standard

      The brake warning light always illuminates at the first click.
