BACK DOOR GLASS(for Hatchback) REMOVAL

PROCEDURE

1. REMOVE BACK DOOR OUTSIDE GARNISH

2. REMOVE REAR WIPER MOTOR ASSEMBLY (w/ Rear Wiper)

3. REMOVE CENTER STOP LIGHT ASSEMBLY

4. REMOVE BACK DOOR PANEL NO. 2 PROTECTOR (w/ Back Door Panel Protector)

   Click here

5. REMOVE BACK DOOR PANEL NO. 1 PROTECTOR (w/ Back Door Panel Protector)

   Tip:

   Use the same procedure as for the back door panel No. 2 protector.

6. REMOVE BACK DOOR GLASS SUB-ASSEMBLY

   1. Disconnect the 2 window defogger connectors.

   2. 

      Protective Tape

      Apply protective tape to the area around the installation position of the back door glass sub-assembly on the back door panel to prevent it from being scratched.

      Tip:

      Apply protective tape to the back door panel to prevent it from being scratched.

   3. 

      *a

      Matchmark

      Place matchmarks on the back door glass sub-assembly and back door panel on the locations indicated in the illustration.

      Tip:

      Matchmarks are not necessary if the back door glass is not going to be reused.

   4. 

      *1	No. 1 Back Window Glass Spacer
      *2	No. 2 Back Window Glass Spacer
      *a	Piano Wire

      Pass a piano wire between the back door panel and back door glass sub-assembly from the interior.

      Note:

      Do not pull the piano wire in a vertical direction, but pull it in a horizontal direction.

   5. Tie both wire ends to wooden blocks or similar objects that can serve as handles.

   6. Cut off the adhesive by pulling the piano wire around the back door glass.

      Note:

      When separating the back door glass, take care not to damage the paint or interior and exterior ornaments.

   7. 

      Using suction cups, disengage the No. 1 and No. 2 back window glass spacers and remove the back door glass sub-assembly.

      Note:

      • To prevent the back door glass sub-assembly from falling when performing this operation, be sure to hold the back door glass sub-assembly using suction cups.

      • Be careful not to drop the back door glass sub-assembly.

      • Leave as much adhesive on the back door panel as possible when removing the back door glass sub-assembly.

7. REMOVE BACK DOOR WINDOW MOULDING

   1. When reusing the back door glass:

      1. 

         *A

         Back Side

         Using a scraper, remove the back door window moulding.

         Note:

         • Be careful not to damage the back door glass.

         • Be sure to replace the back door window moulding with a new one.

8. REMOVE LOWER BACK WINDOW MOULDING

   1. When reusing the back door glass:

      1. 

         *A

         Back Side

         Using a scraper, remove the lower back window moulding.

         Note:

         • Be careful not to damage the back door glass.

         • Be sure to replace the lower back window moulding with a new one.

9. REMOVE NO. 1 BACK WINDOW GLASS SPACER

   1. When reusing the back door glass:

      1. 

         *A

         Back Side

         Using a scraper, remove the No. 1 back window glass spacer.

         Note:

         • Be careful not to damage the back door glass.

         • Be sure to replace the No. 1 back window glass spacer with a new one.

10. REMOVE NO. 2 BACK WINDOW GLASS SPACER

    Note:

    Use the same procedure as for the No. 1 back window glass spacer.

11. CLEAN BACK DOOR GLASS

    1. Using a scraper, remove any remaining adhesive residue from the back door glass.

       Note:

       Be careful not to damage the back door glass.

    2. 

       Clean the outer circumference of the back door glass with a non-residue solvent.

       Note:

       • Do not touch the glass surface after cleaning it.

       • Be careful not to damage the back door glass.

       • Even if using new glass, clean it with a non-residue solvent.

12. CLEAN BACK DOOR PANEL

    1. 

       *1	Back Door Panel
       	Adhesive

       Clean and shape the contact surfaces of the back door panel.

       Standard Dimension

       Area	Dimension
       a	1.0 mm (0.0394 in.) or more

       1. Using a knife, cut away any rough adhesive on the contact surfaces of the back door panel as shown in the illustration.

          Note:

          Be careful not to damage the back door panel.

          Tip:

          Leave as much adhesive on the back door panel as possible.

       2. Clean the contact surfaces of the back door panel with a piece of cloth saturated with non-residue solvent.

          Tip:

          Even if all the adhesive has been removed, clean the back door panel.
