DTC No. Detection Item DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area MIL Memory Note
P023515 Turbocharger/Supercharger Boost Sensor "A" Circuit Short to Battery or Open The No. 2 turbo pressure sensor output voltage is higher than 4.63 V for 3 seconds or more (1 trip detection logic).
  • Open or short in No. 2 turbo pressure sensor circuit

  • No. 2 turbo pressure sensor

  • ECM

Comes on DTC stored SAE Code: P0238

Tech Tips

When this DTC is output, check the Boost Pressure Sensor in the Data List. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / Boost Pressure Sensor.

DTC No. Boost Pressure Sensor Malfunction
P023515 Higher than 314 kPa (45.53 psi)
  • Short in VPTA to PTA circuit

  • Open in PTA circuit

  • Open in EPTA circuit

If the Data List values is normal it may be due to a temporary recovery from the malfunction condition. Check for intermittent problems.

MONITOR DESCRIPTION

The ECM monitors the No. 2 turbo pressure sensor voltage and uses this value to calculate the intercooler internal pressure. When the No. 2 turbo pressure sensor output voltage deviates from the normal operating range, the ECM interprets this as a malfunction in the No. 2 turbo pressure sensor circuit and stores this DTC.

Example:

If the No. 2 turbo pressure sensor output voltage is higher than 4.63 V for 3 seconds or more, the ECM stores this DTC

MONITOR STRATEGY

CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN

  1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

  2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

  3. Turn the GTS on.

  4. Clear the DTCs (even if no DTCs are stored, perform the clear DTC procedure).

  5. Turn the engine switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.

  6. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

  7. Turn the GTS on.

  8. Start the engine and wait 5 seconds or more.

  9. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.

  10. Read the pending DTCs.

    Tech Tips

    • If a pending DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.

    • If a pending DTC is not output, perform the following procedure.

  11. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Utility / All Readiness.

  12. Input the DTC: P023515.

  13. Check the DTC judgment result.

    GTS Display Description
    NORMAL
    • DTC judgment completed

    • System normal

    ABNORMAL
    • DTC judgment completed

    • System abnormal

    INCOMPLETE
    • DTC judgment not completed

    • Perform driving pattern after confirming DTC enabling conditions

    Tech Tips

    • If the judgment result shows NORMAL, the system is normal.

    • If the judgment result shows ABNORMAL, the system has a malfunction.

    • If the judgment result shows INCOMPLETE, perform the Confirmation Driving Pattern and check the DTC judgment result again.

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

Tech Tips

Read Freeze Frame Data using the GTS. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as Freeze Frame Data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, Freeze Frame Data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

PROCEDURE

(to No. 2 Turbo Pressure Sensor)

    Tech Tips

Make sure that the connector is properly connected. If it is not, securely connect it and check for DTCs again.

    1. Disconnect the No. 2 turbo pressure sensor connector.

    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      D55-3 (VC) - D55-1 (E2) Engine switch on (IG) 4.75 to 5.25 V
      D55-2 (PTA) - D55-1 (E2) Engine switch on (IG) 3.0 to 5.25 V
    4. Turn the engine switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.

    5. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      D55-1 (E2) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
