SFI SYSTEM PARTICULATE FILTER REJUVENATE PROCEDURE
PARTICULATE FILTER REJUVENATE PROCEDURE
PM Rejuvenate Mode is a procedure in which accumulated PM (Particulate Matter) in the GPF (Gasoline Particulate Filter) is forcibly oxidized.
This procedure increases the temperature of the GPF and promotes oxidization by using fuel cut to create a lean condition and increase the oxygen content of the exhaust.
Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
Turn the ignition switch to ON.
Turn the GTS on.
Start the engine and warm it up until the engine coolant temperature is 70°C (158°F) or higher with all the accessories switched off.
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Utility / PM Rejuvenate Mode.
Powertrain > Engine > Utility
Tester Display
PM Rejuvenate Mode
Turn the GTS off.
Disconnect the GTS.
Tip:The vehicle will remain in PM Rejuvenate Mode even if the GTS is disconnected from the DLC3.
To end PM Rejuvenate Mode, turn the ignition switch off.
Turn the A/C switch on.
Drive the vehicle at a speed of 60 km/h (37 mph) or more until the GPF warning light turns off, or "Exhaust Filter Regeneration In Process" or "Exhaust Filter Full" is no longer displayed on the multi-information display.
CAUTION:When performing the confirmation driving pattern, obey all speed limits and traffic laws.
Note:When in PM Rejuvenate Mode, shift control will automatically be performed to hold the transmission in a lower gear than normal (to maintain an engine speed of 3000 rpm or higher).
For safety, down shifting can be performed normally. If an upshift is performed and the engine speed drops below 3000 rpm, unless the vehicle is stopped or decelerated to cause a downshift, particulate filter rejuvenation will stop.
Tip:When the vehicle is driven in a manner in which particulate filter rejuvenation is performed, the GPF warning light will blink at a 2 second interval or "Exhaust Filter Regeneration" will be displayed on the multi-information display.
-
Particulate filter rejuvenation can be judged as being performed based on the GPF warning light state or display of "Exhaust Filter Regeneration" on the multi-information display.
If the vehicle speed decreases due to traffic conditions, etc. and particulate filter rejuvenation stops, it will continue when the vehicle speed is increased.
Continuously drive the vehicle at a speed of 60 km/m (37 mph) or more to perform particulate filter rejuvenation.
-
If particulate filter rejuvenation is frequently stopped, downshift as necessary to maintain an engine speed of 3500 to 4500 rpm so that particulate filter rejuvenation can be performed more easily.
While the vehicle is in PM Rejuvenate Mode, the MIL or go to service warning light may illuminate and engine output may be restricted, but if particulate filter rejuvenation is being performed, it will continue.
Fully releasing the accelerator pedal while driving at a vehicle speed of 60 km/h (37 mph) or more can help reduce the time it takes to perform particulate filter rejuvenation.
Driving on roads which allow high speed driving (90 to 100 km/h (56 to 62 mph)), such as a freeway, can reduce the time it takes to perform particulate filter rejuvenation.
When the accumulated PM has dropped below a certain amount, the GPF warning light will turn off, or "Exhaust Filter Regeneration In Process" or "Exhaust Filter Full" will no longer be displayed on the multi-information display.
If the GPF warning light does not turn off or "Exhaust Filter Regeneration In Process" or "Exhaust Filter Full" continues to be displayed on the multi-information display after the vehicle is driven at a speed of 60 km/h (37 mph) or more for 60 minutes or more to perform particulate filter rejuvenation, check the Vehicle Control History.
Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
Turn the ignition switch to ON.
Turn the GTS on.

GPF Rejuvenate Interruption
Interruption by Heat Damage
Idle the engine for 5 minutes before performing particulate filter rejuvenation again. Then, while performing particulate filter rejuvenation, occasionally decrease the vehicle speed to below 60 km/h (37 mph) to allow the exhaust parts to cool before continuing particulate filter rejuvenation.
Interruption by Misfire
Perform troubleshooting for DTC P030000.
Shift limit NG
Check for automatic transmission system DTCs and perform troubleshooting as necessary.
If DTCs are not output, shift as necessary to maintain an engine speed of 3500 to 4500 rpm while driving.
A/F Instability
Perform troubleshooting for DTC P017100.
Grill Shutter Malfunction
Perform troubleshooting for the grille shutter system.

GPF Rejuvenate Run Insufficiency
Not Correct Conditions
Drive the vehicle in a manner that increases the temperature of the GPF.
Tip:Forced particulate filter rejuvenation is typically only necessary for users who frequently drive only short trips, where the temperature of the GPF catalyst does not increase sufficiently to oxidize PM. If the value of the Data List item "PM Deposition Ratio Bank1" is more than 30%, advice the customer to occasionally drive longer than normal, in order to help reduce the accumulation of PM.
If the vehicle cannot be driven a long distance or for a long time, replace the GPF.
