CONSTRUCTION
A cylinder block water jacket spacer utilizing resin with excellent heat resistance and shaping precision is used. As a result, the cylinder bore wall temperature distribution is optimized and friction is reduced.
A cylinder block water jacket spacer is provided in the water jacket of the cylinder block sub-assembly.
The cylinder block water jacket spacer restrains engine coolant flow to the center of the water jacket. Therefore, the flow rate of engine coolant to the upper portion of the cylinder bores and the cooling efficiency between the upper portion of the cylinder block and the cylinder bores increase. Furthermore, since it becomes difficult for the engine coolant to affect the center of the cylinder bores, the temperature of the walls increases. The temperature difference of the cylinder bore walls due to the effects above is reduced to make thermal expansion even and the viscosity of the engine oil which sticks to the cylinder bore walls is reduced. As a result, low friction is achieved.
