CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSAXLE SYSTEM, Diagnostic DTC:P071000

DTC Code DTC Name
P071000 Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor "A" Circuit Range/Performance

DESCRIPTION

The CVT fluid temperature sensor converts the fluid temperature into a resistance value which is detected by the ECM.

The sensor resistance changes with the CVT fluid temperature. As the temperature rises, the sensor resistance decreases. The ECM applies voltage to the temperature sensor through ECM terminal THO1 and calculates the fluid temperature based on the voltage signal.

Tech Tips

The CVT fluid temperature is likely to increase under conditions such as towing, climbing hills and in traffic.

Either one of the following conditions is met (2 trip detection logic):

  • The intake air and engine coolant temperatures were more than -10°C (14°F) at engine start, and the CVT fluid temperature remains below 20°C (68°F) for 3 seconds when the vehicle has been driven for over 18 minutes and 7 km (4.375 miles).

  • The engine coolant temperature was less than 35°C (95°F) at engine start, and the CVT fluid temperature remains more than 100°C (212°F) for 10 seconds.

  • CVT fluid level

MONITOR DESCRIPTION

The CVT fluid temperature sensor converts the CVT fluid temperature to an electrical resistance value. Based on the resistance, the ECM determines the CVT fluid temperature and detects open or short circuits in the CVT fluid temperature circuit.

After driving the vehicle for a certain period, the CVT fluid temperature should increase. If the CVT fluid temperature remains below 20°C (68°F), the ECM interprets this as a fault, illuminates the MIL*, and stores this DTC.

When the engine coolant temperature reaches 35°C (95°F) after a cold engine start, if the CVT fluid temperature is 100°C (212°F) or more, the ECM also determines this as a fault, illuminates the MIL*, and stores this DTC.

Tech Tips

After performing repair, clear the DTCs and perform the following procedure to check that DTCs are not output.

  1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

  2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

  3. Turn the GTS on.

  4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Transmission / Data List / A/T Oil Temperature No.1.

  5. Drive the vehicle and check that the Data List value (A/T Oil Temperature No.1) is between 20 and 100°C (68 and 212°F).

  6. Check for DTCs again.

PROCEDURE

  1. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P071000)

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Transmission / Trouble Codes.

Powertrain > Transmission > Trouble Codes
    5. Read the DTCs using the GTS.

      Tech Tips

If any DTCs other than P071000 are output, perform troubleshooting for those DTCs first.
