REAR BRAKE REMOVAL

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

Tip:
  • Use the same procedure for the RH and LH sides.

  • The following procedure is for the LH side.

Note:
  • When the brake pedal is first depressed after replacing the brake pads or pushing back the disc brake piston, DTC C1214 may be output. As there is no malfunction, clear the DTCs.

  • While the auxiliary battery is connected, even if the power switch is off, the brake control system activates when the brake pedal is depressed or the door courtesy switch is turned on. Therefore, even if only brake pads are to be removed and installed, be sure to perform the Disable Brake Control procedure and disconnect the cable from the negative (-) terminal of the auxiliary battery before beginning work.

PROCEDURE

  1. PRECAUTION

    Note:

    After turning the power switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal notices before proceeding with work.

  2. REMOVE DECK BOARD ASSEMBLY

  3. REMOVE BATTERY SERVICE COVER

  4. DISABLE BRAKE CONTROL

  5. REMOVE REAR WHEEL

  6. DRAIN BRAKE FLUID

    Note:

    Wash off brake fluid immediately if it comes in contact with any painted surface.

  7. DISCONNECT REAR FLEXIBLE HOSE LH

    1. Remove the union bolt and gasket.

    2. Disconnect the rear flexible hose LH from the rear disc brake cylinder assembly LH.

  8. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY LH

      Turn

      Hold the 2 rear disc brake cylinder slide pins and remove the 2 bolts and rear disc brake cylinder assembly LH.

  9. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE PAD

    1. Remove the 2 rear disc brake pads from the rear disc brake cylinder mounting LH.

  10. REMOVE REAR ANTI-SQUEAL SHIM KIT

    1. Remove the 2 No. 1 anti-squeal shims from each rear disc brake pad.

  11. REMOVE PAD WEAR INDICATOR PLATE

    1. Remove the 2 pad wear indicator plates from the rear disc brake pads.

  12. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE PAD SUPPORT PLATE

    1. Remove the 2 rear disc brake pad support plates from the rear disc brake cylinder mounting LH.

  13. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER MOUNTING LH

    1. Remove the 2 bolts and rear disc brake cylinder mounting LH from the rear axle.

  14. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER SLIDE PIN

      Rear Disc Brake Rear Cylinder Slide Pin

      Remove the rear disc brake cylinder slide pin from the rear disc brake cylinder mounting LH.

  15. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE REAR CYLINDER SLIDE PIN

    1. Remove the rear disc brake rear cylinder slide pin from the rear disc brake cylinder mounting LH.

  16. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER SLIDE BUSH

      Protective tape

      Using a screwdriver with its tip wrapped with protective tape, remove the rear disc brake cylinder slide bush from the rear disc brake rear cylinder slide pin.

      Tip:

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

      Note:

      Do not damage the rear disc brake rear cylinder slide pin.

  17. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE BUSH DUST BOOT

    1. C346430

      Remove the 2 rear disc brake bush dust boots from the rear disc brake cylinder mounting LH.

  18. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING HOLE PLUG

    1. Remove the parking brake shoe adjusting hole plug from the rear disc.

  19. REMOVE REAR DISC

      Matchmark

      Put matchmarks on the rear disc and axle hub.

    2. Release the parking brake.

    3. C127304

      Turn the shoe adjuster until the disc turns freely, and then remove the rear disc.

    4. Install the parking brake shoe adjusting hole plug to the rear disc.
