ENGINE UNIT DETAILS PISTON
CONSTRUCTION
The pistons are made of aluminum alloy.
The piston head portion uses a taper squish shape for enhanced fuel combustion efficiency, as well as a configuration that optimizes tumble flow.
The piston skirt is coated with resin to reduce friction losses.
Low-tension piston rings are used to reduce friction and achieve excellent fuel economy.
The No. 1 compression ring, with a thickness of 1.2 mm (0.0472 in.), is used to maintain rigidity to correspond with the higher in-cylinder pressure caused by the increase in the compression ratio.
The sliding surface of the No. 2 compression ring is chrome plated for improved wear resistance.
The oil ring is a 3-piece type, and use of the oil ring contributes higher reliability and lower friction.
A Diamond Like Carbon (DLC) coating has been applied to the surface of the No. 1 compression ring and oil ring, in order to reduce friction losses.
