Speedometer Malfunction

DESCRIPTION

The combination meter assembly receives vehicle speed signals from the brake actuator assembly (skid control ECU) via the CAN communication system. The speed sensor detects the wheel speed and sends the appropriate signals to the brake actuator assembly (skid control ECU). The brake actuator assembly (skid control ECU) supplies power to the vehicle speed sensor. The brake actuator assembly (skid control ECU) detects vehicle speed signals based on pulses of the voltage.

Tip:
  • Factors that affect the indicated vehicle speed include the tire size, tire inflation and tire wear. The speed indicated on the speedometer has an allowable margin of error. This can be tested using the GTS. For details about testing and the margin of error, see the reference chart.

  • If the vehicle speed sensor circuit has a malfunction, the brake actuator assembly (skid control ECU) stores DTCs. Troubleshoot the anti-lock brake system or vehicle stability control system.

  • If the vehicle speed is outside the allowable range when tested, perform the on-vehicle inspection.

  • When it is necessary to replace the combination meter assembly, be sure to replace it with a new one.

Tip:

Before starting the following inspection, check tire size and tire air pressure.

  2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING GTS (Speed Meter Operation)

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Active Test.

    5. Perform the Active Test according to the display on the GTS.

  4. READ VALUE USING GTS (Vehicle Speed, Vehicle Speed Meter)

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Enter the following menus:

      1. for ABS/VSC/TRC: Chassis / ABS/VSC/TRC / Data List.

      2. for Combination Meter: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Data List.

    5. Read the Data List according to the display on the GTS.
