STEERING LOCK SYSTEM PRECAUTION
PRECAUTIONS WHEN CHECKING FOR DTCS
When the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) battery terminal, the DTCs stored in the steering lock ECU are cleared. Be sure to record any output DTCs immediately.
When using the GTS with the engine switch off to troubleshoot:
Connect the GTS to the DLC3 and turn a courtesy light switch on and off at 1.5 second intervals until communication between the GTS and vehicle begins.
PRECAUTION WHEN BATTERY VOLTAGE IS LOW OR AFTER DISCONNECTING AND RECONNECTING CABLE TO NEGATIVE (-) BATTERY TERMINAL
After the cable is disconnected and reconnected to the negative (-) battery terminal, or when the battery voltage is low, once the battery is restored to its normal state, if the driver door is not opened and then closed with the engine switch off, the steering lock may not be able to be released and the engine may not be able to start.

If replacing any of the following parts, refer to Service Bulletin.

PRECAUTIONS FOR STEERING LOCK/UNLOCK FUNCTION
After turning the vehicle engine switch off and opening and closing any of the doors, the steering wheel will be locked due to the steering lock function. Operating the vehicle engine switch again automatically cancels the steering lock function.
To prevent the steering lock motor from overheating, the motor operation may be suspended if the steering is locked and unlocked repeatedly in a short period of time. In this case, refrain from operating the engine. After about 10 seconds, the steering lock motor will resume functioning.
