EXHAUST MANIFOLD W/ TURBOCHARGER INSPECTION

PROCEDURE

1. VISUALLY CHECK TURBOCHARGER SUB-ASSEMBLY

   1. Check for deformation and cracks in the turbine wheel on the exhaust side.

      If the turbine wheel is cracked or deformed, replace the turbocharger sub-assembly.

2. CHECK TURBINE SHAFT ROTATION

   1. 

      Rotate the turbine wheel on the exhaust side with your finger and check that it rotates smoothly. If the turbine wheel does not rotate smoothly, replace the turbocharger sub-assembly.

      If the turbine wheel does not rotate smoothly, replace the turbocharger sub-assembly.

      Tip:

      Due to the viscosity of the oil, it may take a little effort to rotate the turbine wheel. This is not a problem.

   2. 

      Move the turbine wheel as shown in the illustration and check that there is no looseness in the shaft and that the turbine wheel does not contact the housing.

      If there is any contact with the housing or obvious looseness in the shaft, replace the turbocharger sub-assembly.

      Tip:

      A clearance of 100 μm exists between the turbine shaft and bearings. If it is difficult to judge the looseness of the turbine shaft, perform the same inspection on another vehicle which has the same turbocharger and compare the clearance.
