DESCRIPTION

The ECM communicates with the battery current sensor assembly via LIN communication. If a LIN communication error is detected, the ECM stores this DTC and illuminates the charging warning light.

Note:
  • Inspect the fuses for circuits related to this system before performing the following inspection procedure.

  • After turning ignition switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal notices before proceeding with work.

PROCEDURE

  1. CHECK LIN COMMUNICATION SIGNAL WAVEFORM (ECM - BATTERY CURRENT SENSOR ASSEMBLY)

    (to Battery Current Sensor)

    1. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

    2. Disconnect the A40 battery current sensor assembly connector.

    3. Disconnect the B32 generator assembly connector.

    4. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.

    5. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    6. Connect an oscilloscope to battery current sensor assembly connector.

    7. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    8. Turn the GTS on.

      After clearing the DTCs, check waveform.

      Tip:

      The oscilloscope waveform shown in the illustration is an example for reference only. Noise, chattering, etc. are not shown.

  2. READ OUTPUT DTC (DTC P162B)

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Clear the DTCs.

      Powertrain > Engine and ECT > Clear DTCs

    5. Start the engine and wait 17 minutes or more.

    6. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.

    7. Read the DTCs.

      Powertrain > Engine and ECT > Trouble Codes

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - BATTERY CURRENT SENSOR ASSEMBLY)

    1. Disconnect the B31 ECM connector.

    2. Disconnect the A40 battery current sensor assembly connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)
