Tech Tips

Perform these procedures after the engine has cooled down.


  1. INSPECT DRIVE BELT


    1. Inspect the drive belt.


  2. REPLACE ENGINE OIL AND OIL FILTER


    1. Replace the engine oil and oil filter.


  3. INSPECT COOLING AND HEATER SYSTEM


    1. Check that the radiator, condenser and/or intercooler is not blocked with leaves, dirt or insects, and clean them if necessary. Also check the hose connection for the installation condition, corrosion, etc.

  4. INSPECT ENGINE COOLANT


    1. Inspect the engine coolant.

  5. REPLACE ENGINE COOLANT


    1. Replace the engine coolant.

  6. INSPECT EXHAUST PIPES AND MOUNTINGS


    1. Visually check the pipes, hangers and connections for severe corrosion, leaks or damage.

  7. REPLACE SPARK PLUGS


    1. Replace the spark plugs.


  8. INSPECT BATTERY


    1. Inspect the battery.


  9. REPLACE FUEL FILTER


    1. Replace the fuel filter.


  10. ADD VALVE MECHANISM


    1. for China:

      Add fuel injector cleaner to the fuel tank.

  11. ADD FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM


    1. for 8GR-FKS:


      1. for Armenia, Macao, Egypt, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Sultanate of Oman, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait:

        Add fuel injector cleaner to the fuel tank.

    2. for V35A-FTS:


      1. for Russia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Honduras, Philippines, Armenia, El Salvador, Bolivia, Macao, Aruba, Curacao, Peru, Panama, Republic of Nicaragua, Egypt, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Sultanate of Oman, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Iceland, Canary islands, Reunion, and Serbia:

        Add fuel injector cleaner to the fuel tank.

  12. INSPECT AIR CLEANER FILTER ELEMENT


    1. Remove the air cleaner filter element.

      Check that the air cleaner filter element is not excessively dirty.

      If the air cleaner filter element is excessively dirty, replace the air cleaner filter element.

    3. If cleaning the air cleaner filter element, blow compressed air as shown in the illustration to clean it.

    4. Reinstall the air cleaner filter element.

  13. INSPECT FUEL LINES, CONNECTIONS, AND FUEL TANK VAPOR VENT SYSTEM HOSES


    1. Visually check the fuel lines and hoses for cracks, leaks, loose connections, or deformation.

    2. Check for tank band looseness or deformation.

  14. INSPECT FUEL TANK CAP GASKET


    1. Check the fuel tank cap gasket.


  15. INSPECT CHARCOAL CANISTER


    1. Inspect the charcoal canister.
