POWER SEAT CONTROL SYSTEM


  1. FUNCTION OF MAIN COMPONENTS


    1. The main components in the front power seat control system (with memory function) have the following functions:

      Driver Seat Memory Function
      Component Outline

      Front Power Seat Switch LH*1/RH*2


      • Position Control ECU


      • Operates the front power seat.

      • Operates the motors in accordance with the signals from the front power seat switch.

      • Registers and recalls seat positions in accordance with the operation of the seat memory switch.

      • Operates the automatic away and automatic return functions.

      Seat Memory Switch Operates the seat position memory function.
      Main Body ECU (Multiplex Network Body ECU) Various signals are transmitted and received via the Controller Area Network (CAN).
      Multiplex Tilt and Telescopic ECU
      • Detects the position information of the tilt and telescopic motors.

      • Receives signals from the position control ECU via the CAN and memorizes and recalls the steering position.

      Outer Mirror Control ECU LH*1/RH*2
      • Receives signals from the position control ECU and memorizes and recalls the outer mirror surface position.

      • The outer mirror control ECU (driver side)sends seat memory switch operating signals to the main body ECU.

      Front Passenger Seat Memory Function

      Front Power Seat Switch LH*1/RH*2


      • Position Control ECU


      • Operates the front power seat.

      • Operates the motors in accordance with the signals from the front power seat switch.

      • Registers and recalls seat positions in accordance with the operation of the seat memory switch.

      Seat Memory Switch Operates the seat position memory function.
      Main Body ECU (Multiplex Network Body ECU) Various signals are transmitted and received via the Controller Area Network (CAN).
      Outer Mirror Control ECU LH*1/RH*2

      The outer mirror control ECU (front passenger side)sends seat memory switch operating signals to the main body ECU.

    2. The main components in the rear power seat control system have the following functions (Second-row Seat Models):

      Rear Power Seat Switch (RH/LH) Operates the rear power seat control system.
      Fold Seat Switch Assembly
      Fold Seat Control ECU (RH/LH)
      • Detects the position information of the rear seatback motors.

      • Controls the seatback reclining and fold down functions.

      • The buzzer simultaneously sounds when the seatback operates.

      Main Body ECU (Multiplex Network Body ECU) Outputs shift position signals to the fold seat control ECUs.
      Rear Door Courtesy Light Switch Assembly (RH/LH) Outputs door open/close status signals to the fold seat control ECUs.
      Back Door Lock Assembly Outputs back door open/close status signals to the fold seat control ECUs.
    3. The main components in the rear power seat control system have the following functions (Rear No. 2 Seat (Third-row Seat Models)):

      Fold Seat Switch Assembly Operates the rear power seat control system.
      No. 1 Fold Seat Switch Assembly
      Fold Seat Control ECU (RH/LH)
      • Determines the seat position using the signal output from each motor of each seat.

      • The vehicle condition signal is received from the main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU), and a rear power seat permission/prohibition judgment is made.

      • Operates the fold down/return function by receiving the signal from each switch and operating the motors of each seat.

      • Sounds the buzzer when the rear power seat starts operating or stops.

      Main Body ECU (Multiplex Network Body ECU) Outputs the vehicle speed signal to the fold seat control ECU (RH/LH).
      Rear Door Courtesy Light Switch Assembly (RH/LH) Outputs door open/close status signals to the fold seat control ECUs.
      Back Door Lock Assembly Outputs back door open/close status signals to the fold seat control ECUs.
  2. OPERATING CONDITION


    1. Memory Function


      1. The memory function operating conditions are as follows:

        Either of the following conditions is met while the power switch is on (IG):


        • Button 1, 2 or 3 (seat memory switch) is pushed within 3 seconds after the "SET" button is pushed.


        • Stores the seat position.

        • When the memory setting is completed, the buzzer sounds for 0.5 seconds.

        Recall
        • Button 1, 2 or 3 (seat memory switch) is pushed within 180 seconds after the driver door has been opened while the power switch is off.

        • Button 1, 2 or 3 (seat memory switch) is pushed.


        • The seat position that was memorized in the position control ECU assembly is recalled.

        • The buzzer sounds for 0.1 seconds once the stored seat position is reproduced.


        • Power switch is on (IG).

        • Shift position is in P.

        • Button 1, 2 or 3 (seat memory switch) is pushed.

        Button 1, 2 or 3 (seat memory switch) is pushed within 60 seconds after the power switch has been turned off and the driver door or front passenger door has been closed.
        Memory Call
        • A key ID is registered to button 1, 2 or 3 (seat memory switch).

        • Power switch is off.

        • The inside of the outside door handle is touched or the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly unlock button is pushed to unlock, and then the driver door is opened.


        • The seat position that was memorized in the position control ECU assembly is recalled.

        • The buzzer sounds for 0.1 seconds once the stored seat position is reproduced.

        Automatic Away
        • Power switch is turned off.

        • Driver seat belt is not fastened.


        • The seat automatically moves rearward up to 50 mm (1.97 in.).

        • The lumbar support moves to the rearmost position.

        Automatic Return
        • Seat is in the automatic away position.

        • Power switch is turned on.

        • Fasten the driver seat belt.


        • The seat automatically returns to the previous seat position.

        • If the position control ECU determines that the driver seat will interfere with the retractable table while the automatic away function is operating, the automatic away function stops and the buzzer (built into the front power seat switch) sounds simultaneously.

        Either of the following conditions is met while the power switch is on (IG):


        • Button 1, 2 or 3 (seat memory switch) is pushed within 3 seconds after the "SET" button is pushed.


        • Stores the seat position.

        • Button 1, 2 or 3 (seat memory switch) is pushed within 180 seconds after the driver door has been opened while the power switch is off.

        • The buzzer sounds for 0.1 seconds once the stored seat position is reproduced.


        • Power switch is on (IG).

        • Shift position is in P.

        • Button 1, 2 or 3 (seat memory switch) is pushed.

    2. Rear Power Seat System


      1. The fold down seat system operating conditions are as follows (Second-row Seat Models):

        Function Condition Operation
        One Touch Power Fold Down/Return Function
        • Power switch is off and vehicle speed is 5 km/h (3 mph) or less or shift position is in P.

        • Door is open on the side operated from.

        • Rear power seat switch is operated.


        • Seatback folds down.

        • The seatback returns to the position it was at when the seatback started to fold down.

        • The buzzer sounds once when the seatback operation starts.


        • Power switch is off and vehicle speed is 5 km/h (3 mph) or less or shift position is in P.

        • Back door is open.

        • Deck side No. 2 fold seat switch assembly is operated.

        Emergency Stop Function
        • When the seatback is operating, the operated switch is operated again.

        • When the seatback is operating, a switch which controls the side that is operating, other than the switch initially used to operate the seatback, is operated.


        • The operating seatback stops.

        • When the seatback operation stops, the buzzer sounds for 10 seconds.

      2. The fold down system operating conditions are as follows (Rear No. 2 Seat (Third-row Seat Models)):

        Fold down/Return Function
        • Any of the following conditions are met:


          • Power switch is off.

          • Vehicle speed is below 5 km/h (3.1 mph) and the shift lever is in P.

          • Vehicle speed is below 5 km/h (3.1 mph) and the brake pedal is depressed.

          • Vehicle speed is below 5 km/h (3.1 mph) and the parking brake is applied.

        • Fold seat switch assembly is operated.


        • The seatback folds down and the seat cushion stows rearward.

        • When the fold down/return function starts operating, the buzzer built into the fold seat control ECU sounds.


        • Any of the following conditions are met:


          • Power switch is off.

          • Vehicle speed is below 5 km/h (3.1 mph) and the shift lever is in P.

          • Vehicle speed is below 5 km/h (3.1 mph) and the brake pedal is depressed.

          • Vehicle speed is below 5 km/h (3.1 mph) and the parking brake is applied.

        • Back door is open.

        • Deck side No. 1 fold seat switch assembly is operated.

        Emergency Stop Function
        • When the fold down/return function is operating, another operation switch for the seat is pushed.


        • The fold down/return operation stops.

        • The fold down/return operation stops and the buzzer sounds simultaneously.

  3. FUNCTION


    1. Memory Function


      1. The power seat control system has the following functions:

        Driver Seat Memory Function
        Function Outline
        Manual Control The user can perform seat slide, seat reclining, front vertical, seat lifter lumbar support and cushion length adjustments by operating the front power seat switch.
        Memory Memory The memory function can memorize 3 different seat positions.
        Recall The recall function can recall 3 different memorized seat positions.
        Memory Call The memory call function, which utilizes the key IDs, is used to memorize and retrieve the optimal driving positions for a person possessing the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly.
        Automatic Away The seat slide moves rearward, making it easier to exit the vehicle.
        Automatic Return The automatic return function automatically returns the seat to the previous position before starting the vehicle.
        Front Passenger Seat Memory Function
        Function Outline
        Manual Control The user can perform seat slide, seat reclining, front vertical, seat lifter lumbar support and cushion length adjustments by operating the front power seat switch.
        Memory Memory The memory function can memorize 3 different seat positions.
        Recall The recall function can recall 3 different memorized seat positions.
      2. The memory function works in combination with the following systems, ensuring usability and enabling easy entering or exiting of the vehicle.

        System Outline
        Power Tilt and Telescopic System The multiplex tilt and telescopic ECU memorizes the steering column position and recalls it when all conditions are met.
        Outside Rear View Mirror System The outer mirror control ECUs memorize the outside rear view mirror positions and recalls them when all conditions are met.
    2. Rear Power Seat System


      1. The fold down seat system has the following functions (Second-row Seat Models):

        System Outline
        Manual Control The user can perform seat reclining by operating the rear power seat switch.
        Automatic Fold Down/Return The automatic fold down/return function can fold down and return the seatbacks with one touch via operation of the rear power seat switches or fold seat switch assemblies.
      2. The fold down system has the following functions (Rear No. 2 Seat (Third-row Seat Models)):

        Fold down/return function By operating the fold seat switch assembly or No. 1 fold seat switch assembly, the rear No. 2 seat can fold down or return.
  4. OPERATION


    1. Seat Position Detection Method


      1. Power Seats with Memory Function


        1. The Hall IC installed on the power seat motor generates pulses corresponding to the speed of the motor. These pulses are then picked up by the position control ECU (front power seat switch LH) in order to detect the seat position.

  5. DIAGNOSIS


    1. The position control ECU (front power seat switch) has a diagnosis function. It stores a record of any power seat control system malfunctions in its memory in the form of Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).

    2. The position control ECU (front power seat switch) outputs malfunction data and 5-digit DTCs to the Global TechStream (GTS).

    3. The 5-digit DTCs can be read after connecting the Global TechStream (GTS) to the DLC3. For details, refer to the Repair Manual.
