THEFT DETERRENT

  1. FUNCTION

    1. The theft deterrent system has the following function:

      Function Outline
Alarm When the theft deterrent system enters the alarm state, the warning items (hazard warning lights and security horn or self-power siren) are operated for approximately 30 seconds.
      Security Indicator
      • When the state of the theft deterrent system enters the armed preparation or alarm state, the security indicator light is illuminated to inform the user.

      • This indicator is also the engine immobiliser indicator, it blinks when the engine immobiliser is in an engaged state.

      Forced Door Lock
      • The main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU) transmits a door lock signal when all of the following conditions are satisfied.

        • The theft deterrent system is in the alarm state (except in the situation where a door has been unlocked with the mechanical key).

        • Any door has been unlocked

      • The function stops when one of the following conditions is met.

        • All doors are locked.

        • The warning ends.

        • Either front door is unlocked using the mechanical key.

  2. CONSTRUCTION

    1. Intrusion Sensor

      1. An intrusion sensor is provided in the map light assembly.

      2. If the intrusion sensor detects an inappropriate entry into the vehicle interior by an intruder (including intrusions made by breaking window glass), a warning signal is sent to the main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU).

      3. The intrusion sensor operation can be suspended for a short period of time by pressing the intrusion sensor cancel switch, provided on the map light assembly, before the theft deterrent system is set.

      4. The intrusion sensor, which is linked to the auto alarm system, sets automatically when the system transfers to the armed state (and the setting of the auto alarm is completed).

      5. When the intrusion sensor detects a moving object in the vehicle interior, the system transfers to the alarm state. Then, the system sounds the horn intermittently and blinks the hazard warning lights for approximately 27.5 seconds and performs a forced locking operation.

        Tech Tips

        • Ultrasonic waves are used to detect intrusion. Ultrasonic waves do not penetrate steel or glass. When any of the side windows is left open, ultrasonic waves may escape. This may result in the detection of people in the surroundings, leaves or insects entering the vehicle, strong wind or other ultrasonic wave sources in the environment when the vehicle is parked with the side windows open.

        • When parking the vehicle with the side windows open for ventilation, turn off the intrusion sensor using the off switch.

    2. Glass Breakage Sensor

      1. By sending signals through the connected sensor strips on the back door glass and rear quarter glass, the glass breakage sensor can detect breakage of those glasses.

      2. The glass breakage sensors are linked to the theft deterrent system, and they will automatically be set when the system enters the armed state. During the armed state, when the glass breakage sensor detects an open circuit of the print patterns on the back door glass and rear quarter glass, it transmits a signal indicating glass breakage to the main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU), and the system enters the alarm state.

    3. Self-power Siren

      1. During a normal operation, this siren sounds an alarm in accordance with the operation signal from the main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU). Because this siren has an internal battery, it can independently sound an alarm even if the vehicle's battery terminals are disconnected or if the wiring harnesses that are related to the system are cut.

  3. OPERATION

    1. The states of the theft deterrent system are as follows:

      State Description Theft Detection
Disarmed State The theft deterrent system has not been set by the user. Not possible
Armed Preparation State The standby state before the theft deterrent system activates when the system has already been set. Not possible
Armed State The theft deterrent system is being activated. (Theft can be detected.) Possible
Alarm State Theft has been detected and the warning operation activates. Possible
      A0050U0E14
    2. The theft deterrent system activates as described in the diagram below when one of items in the chart occurs in order to cause the system to enter the respective state.

      Condition Item
      (1)

In the disarmed state, when the power switch is off, the system state is switched if all of the following conditions are met:

With all doors closed and engine hood closed, all doors are locked by wireless operation or the entry and start system.

      (2) Allow approx. 30 seconds to elapse.
      (3)

      - All doors are unlocked by wireless operation, the entry and start system or key linked power door lock operation*1.

      - Any door is unlocked.

      - Any door is opened.

      - The power switch is pressed.

      - The auxiliary battery is reconnected.

      (4)

      - With the engine hood closed, the engine hood is opened.

      - The auxiliary battery is reconnected.

      - Intrusion sensor (theft warning ultrasonic sensor) detects movement within vehicle (except in the situation where there is a key in the actuation area or it is within 30 seconds of a person who is holding a key exiting an actuation area).*2

      - The main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU) detects breakage of the glass breakage sensor (quarter window assembly RH, quarter window assembly LH or back door glass).*2

      - Any door is opened when all doors are closed.

      - Any door is unlocked when all doors are locked.

      - When 5 seconds or more have elapsed.

      - The engine hood is opened.

      - Any door is unlocked.

      - Any door is opened.

      Note

Ultrasonic waves are used to detect intrusion. Ultrasonic waves do not penetrate steel or glass. When any of the door glasses is left open, ultrasonic waves may escape. This may result in the detection of people in the surroundings, leaves or insects entering the vehicle, strong wind or other ultrasonic wave sources in the environment when the vehicle is parked with the door glasses open. When parking the vehicle with the door glasses open for ventilation, turn off the intrusion sensor (theft warning ultrasonic sensor) using the intrusion sensor cancel switch.*2

      (5)

      - The power switch is turned on (READY).

      - All doors are unlocked by wireless operation, the entry and start system or key linked power door lock operation*1.

      (6) After approx. 27.5 seconds, alarm stops and 5 seconds later system returns to armed state.
      (7) The engine hood is closed when the engine hood is opened.
      (8)

      - Any door is unlocked when all doors are locked.

      - Any door is opened.

      - The power switch is turned on (ACC or IG).

      - The power switch is pressed.

      - The auxiliary battery is reconnected.

      - All doors are unlocked by wireless operation, the entry and start system or key linked power door lock operation*1.

      (9)

In the disarmed state 1, when the power switch is off, the system state is switched if the following condition is met:

      - With all doors closed and the engine hood open, all doors are locked by wireless operation or the entry and start system.

      (10) The engine hood is open.
