STEERING GEAR INSTALLATION

PROCEDURE

1. INSTALL STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY

   1. Install the steering gear assembly to the front suspension crossmember with the 2 bolts and 2 nuts.

      110 N*m

      1122 kgf*cm

      81 ft.*lbf

      Note:

      • Make sure to tighten the bolts starting from the left side of the vehicle.

      • Because the nut has its own stopper, do not turn the nut. Tighten the bolt with the nut fixed in place.

2. INSTALL STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT

   1.

      Matchmark

      Align the matchmarks and install the steering intermediate shaft to the steering gear assembly.

   2. Install the bolt.

      35.3 N*m

      26 ft.*lbf

3. INSTALL NO. 1 STEERING COLUMN HOLE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY

   1. Align the round hole in the No. 1 steering column hole cover assembly with the protrusion of the steering gear assembly and install the cover.

   2. Install a new clamp.

4. INSTALL FRONT SUSPENSION CROSSMEMBER SUB-ASSEMBLY

5. INSTALL STEERING GEAR HEAT INSULATOR (for ZR Series Engine RHD)

   1. Install the heat insulator and bolt to the steering gear.

      8.0 N*m

      82 kgf*cm

      71 in.*lbf

6. INSTALL FRONT SUSPENSION MEMBER REAR BRACE LH

7. INSTALL FRONT SUSPENSION MEMBER REAR BRACE RH

   Tip:

   Use the same procedure described for the LH side.

8. INSTALL LOWER ENGINE FRONT MOUNTING BRACKET REINFORCEMENT (for 3ZR-FE (2WD) and 1AD-FTV)

9. INSTALL FRONT SUSPENSION MEMBER REINFORCEMENT LH

10. INSTALL FRONT SUSPENSION MEMBER REINFORCEMENT RH

    Tip:

    Use the same procedure described for the LH side.

11. INSTALL FRONT STABILIZER LINK ASSEMBLY LH

12. INSTALL FRONT STABILIZER LINK ASSEMBLY RH

    Tip:

    Use the same procedure described for the LH side.

13. CONNECT TIE ROD END SUB-ASSEMBLY LH

    1. 

       Connect the tie rod end to the steering knuckle with the nut.

       49 N*m

       500 kgf*cm

       36 ft.*lbf

       Note:

       Tighten the nut up to an additional 60° if the holes for the cotter pin are not aligned.

    2. Install a new cotter pin.

14. CONNECT TIE ROD END SUB-ASSEMBLY RH

    Tip:

    Use the same procedure described for the LH side.

15. CONNECT NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY

    1. Align the matchmarks and install the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly to the intermediate shaft.

    2. Install the bolt.

       35.3 N*m

       360 kgf*cm

       26 ft.*lbf
