FRONT UPPER SUSPENSION ARM (for 4WD and Pre-Runner) REMOVAL

Tech Tips


  • Use the same procedure for the RH and LH sides

  • The procedure listed below is for the LH side.


  1. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL

  2. REMOVE FRONT SPEED SENSOR LH (w/ ABS)

      Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the speed sensor wire.

  3. DISCONNECT FRONT STABILIZER LINK ASSEMBLY LH

      Remove the nut and disconnect the stabilizer link from the steering knuckle.

      Tech Tips

      If the ball joint turns together with the nut, use a 6 mm hexagon wrench to hold the stud in place.

  4. REMOVE FRONT UPPER SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY LH

    1. Support the lower arm with a jack.

    2. Remove the clip and nut.

    3. Using SST, disconnect the upper ball joint from the steering knuckle.

    4. A01DVAKE01

      Remove the nut, 2 retainers and bolt.

    5. Remove the upper arm.

  5. REMOVE FRONT UPPER ARM BUSH

      Using a hammer and chisel, strike and bend the entire flange of the bush as shown in the illustration.

      *1 Bush

      Using SST and a press, press out the upper arm bush.

  6. REMOVE UPPER BALL JOINT DUST COVER


    1. Remove the dust cover set ring and dust cover from the upper arm.

      Note


      • Do not damage the ball joint dust cover.

      • If the ball joint dust cover is damaged, replace it.

  7. REMOVE FRONT UPPER BALL JOINT


    1. A01DWCC

      Using a snap ring expander, remove the snap ring.

    2. A01DVAQE01

      Using SST and a press, press out the upper ball joint.
