WINDSHIELD GLASS REMOVAL

PROCEDURE

  1. PRECAUTION

    Note:
    • After turning the ignition switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal notice before proceeding with work (Click here).

    • When replacing the windshield glass of a vehicle equipped with a pre-collision city sensor, make sure to use a Toyota genuine part. If a non-Toyota genuine part is used, the pre-collision city sensor may not be able to be installed due to a missing bracket or the pre-collision system may not operate properly due to a difference in the transmissivity of the windshield glass or the shape of the black ceramic border.

  2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

    CAUTION:

    Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    Note:

    When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (Click here).

  3. REMOVE CENTER ROOF DRIP SIDE FINISH MOULDING LH

    1. Remove the center roof drip side finish moulding (Click here).

  4. REMOVE CENTER ROOF DRIP SIDE FINISH MOULDING RH

    Tip:

    Use the same procedure described for the LH side.

  5. REMOVE FRONT WIPER ARM HEAD CAP

  6. REMOVE FRONT WIPER ARM AND BLADE ASSEMBLY LH

  7. REMOVE FRONT WIPER ARM AND BLADE ASSEMBLY RH

  8. REMOVE HOOD TO COWL TOP SEAL

  9. REMOVE COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER LH (except 1WW)

  10. REMOVE COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER LH (for 1WW)

  11. REMOVE COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER RH (except 1WW)

  12. REMOVE COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER RH (for 1WW)

  13. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH

  14. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE RH

  15. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM BOARD LH

  16. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM BOARD RH

  17. REMOVE FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM WEATHERSTRIP LH

  28. REMOVE RAIN SENSOR (w/ Rain Sensor)

  29. REMOVE VISOR ASSEMBLY LH

  32. REMOVE ASSIST GRIP ASSEMBLY

  33. REMOVE ROOF HEADLINING ASSEMBLY

    1. Partially remove the roof headlining.

      Tip:

      It is not necessary to completely remove the roof headlining. Slightly lower the front section of the roof headlining so that the windshield glass can be removed in a later step. Refer to the following procedure (Click here).

  34. REMOVE WINDSHIELD OUTSIDE MOULDING

    1. Using a knife, cut off the moulding as shown in the illustration.

      Note:

      Be careful not to damage the vehicle body.

    2. Pull the shaded area shown in the illustration by hand to remove the windshield outside moulding.

      Tip:

      Make a partial cut in the moulding. Then pull and remove it by hand.

  35. REMOVE WINDSHIELD GLASS

    1. Apply protective tape to the outer surface of the vehicle body to prevent scratches.

    2. From the interior, insert a piano wire between the vehicle body and glass as shown in the illustration.

    3. Tie objects that can serve as handles (for example, wooden blocks) to both wire ends.

      Note:
      • When separating the glass from the vehicle, be careful not to damage the vehicle paint or interior/exterior ornaments.

      • To prevent the instrument panel from being scratched when removing the glass, place a plastic sheet between the piano wire and instrument panel.

      Place matchmarks on the glass and vehicle body at the locations indicated in the illustration.

      Note:

      Matchmarks do not need to be placed if not reusing the glass.

    5. w/ Windshield Deicer System:

      Disconnect the windshield deicer connector.

    6. Cut through the adhesive by pulling the piano wire around the glass.

      Note:

      Leave as much adhesive on the vehicle body as possible when removing the glass.

    7. Disconnect the stoppers.

    8. Using suction cups, remove the glass.

  36. REMOVE NO. 2 WINDSHIELD GLASS STOPPER

    1. Using a scraper, remove the 2 No. 2 windshield glass stoppers.

      Note:
      • The stoppers are located on the windshield glass sub-assembly as shown in the illustration. Be careful not to damage the windshield glass when removing the stoppers.

      • To prevent the windshield glass sub-assembly from dropping when performing this operation, be sure to hold the windshield glass sub-assembly using suction cups.

      Tip:

      Depending on the vehicle specifications, a 1-piece or 2-piece type stopper is used.

  37. REMOVE WINDOW GLASS ADHESIVE DAM

    1. Using a scraper, remove the dam.

  38. REMOVE NO. 1 WINDSHIELD GLASS STOPPER (for 2-piece Type)

    1. Remove the 2 windshield glass stoppers.

  39. CLEAN VEHICLE BODY

    1. Clean and shape the contact surface of the vehicle body.

      1. On the contact surface of the vehicle body, use a knife to cut away excess adhesive as shown in the illustration.

        Note:

        Be careful not to damage the vehicle body.

        Tip:

        Leave as much adhesive on the vehicle body as possible.

    2. Clean the contact surface of the vehicle body with cleaner.

      Tip:

      Even if all the adhesive has been removed, clean the vehicle body.
