Tech Tips

Read freeze frame data using the intelligent tester. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

PROCEDURE

  1. READ VALUE USING INTELLIGENT TESTER (ACCEL SENS. NO.1 VOLT % AND ACCEL SENS. NO.2 VOLT %)

    1. A01DZASE07

Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch ON and turn the tester ON.

    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / Accel Sens. No.1 Volt % and Accel Sens. No.2 Volt %.

    4. Read the values.

      Standard
Accelerator Pedal Accel Sens. No.1 Volt % Accel Sens. No.2 Volt %
      Released 10 to 22% 24 to 40%
      Depressed 52 to 90% 68 to 99%

    OK
    NG
  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION SENSOR - ECM)

    1. A01E2PSE20

      Disconnect the A13 sensor connector.

    2. Disconnect the E5 ECM connector.

    3. Measure the resistance of the wire harness side connectors.

      Standard resistance (Check for open)
      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      VCP2 (A13-1) - VCP2 (E5-27) Below 1 Ω
      EPA2 (A13-2) - EPA2 (E5-29) Below 1 Ω
      VPA2 (A13-3) - VPA2 (E5-23) Below 1 Ω
      VCPA (A13-4) - VCPA (E5-26) Below 1 Ω
      EPA (A13-5) - EPA (E5-28) Below 1 Ω
      VPA (A13-6) - VPA (E5-22) Below 1 Ω
      Standard resistance (Check for short)
      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      VCP2 (A13-1) or VCP2 (E5-27) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
      EPA2 (A13-2) or EPA2 (E5-29) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
      VPA2 (A13-3) or VPA2 (E5-23) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
VCPA (A13-4) or VCPA (E5-26) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
EPA (A13-5) or EPA (E5-28) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
VPA (A13-6) or VPA (E5-22) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher

    NG
    OK
