OUTLINE
The 8AR-FTS engine is an in-line 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter, 16-valve DOHC, turbocharged engine with intercooler. This engine uses a Direct injection 4-stroke gasoline engine Superior version (D-4S) system which uses both direct injection and port injection systems. In addition, this engine uses the Variable Valve Timing-intelligent Wide (VVT-iW) control, Variable Valve Timing-intelligent (VVT-i) control, Direct Ignition System (DIS) and Electronic Throttle Control System-intelligent (ETCS-i). It has been developed to achieve high performance, quietness, fuel economy and clean emissions.
This engine uses ESTEC D-4ST.

Direct injection 4 stroke gasoline engine Superior version with Turbo (D-4ST): A direct injection technology which uses a system to comprehensively controls the turbo boost pressure and the D-4S system to achieve a higher dimension of high tumble flow and turbo pressure control by optimizing the cylinder head ports and shape of the piston faces. As a result, enhanced economy and low-speed torque are achieved.
