CLUTCH UNIT(for C553A) INSPECTION

PROCEDURE

  1. INSPECT CLUTCH DISC ASSEMBLY

    C118350
    1. Using a vernier caliper, measure the rivet head depth.

      Minimum Rivet Head Depth

      0.3 mm (0.0118 in.)

If the rivet head depth is less than the minimum, replace the clutch disc assembly.

    2. C114037

Using a dial indicator, check the clutch disc assembly runout.

      Maximum Runout

      0.8 mm (0.0315 in.)

If the runout is more than the maximum, replace the clutch disc assembly.

  2. INSPECT FLYWHEEL SUB-ASSEMBLY

    C062958
    1. Using a dial indicator, check the flywheel sub-assembly runout.

      Maximum Runout

      0.1 mm (0.00394 in.)

If the runout is more than the maximum, replace the flywheel sub-assembly.

  3. INSPECT CLUTCH COVER ASSEMBLY

    C304503N01
    1. Using a vernier caliper, measure the depth and width of the diaphragm spring wear.

      Maximum

      Depth (A)

      0.6 mm (0.0236 in.)

      Width (B)

      5.0 mm (0.197 in.)

If the depth or width is more than the maximum, replace the clutch cover assembly.

  4. INSPECT CLUTCH RELEASE BEARING ASSEMBLY

    C114038
    1. Check that the clutch release bearing assembly moves smoothly without abnormal resistance by turning the sliding parts of the clutch release bearing assembly (clutch cover assembly contacting surface) while applying force in the axial direction.

      Tip:

The bearing is permanently lubricated and requires no cleaning or lubrication.

    2. Inspect the clutch release bearing assembly for damage and wear.

If necessary, replace the clutch release bearing assembly.
