POWER WINDOW CONTROL SYSTEM

  1. SYSTEM CONTROL

    1. The power window control system has the following functions:

      Function Outline
Power Up-and-down This function causes the window to open or close while the multiplex network master switch assembly or power window regulator switch assembly is being pulled halfway up or pushed halfway down. The window stops as soon as the switch is released.
One-touch Auto Up-and-down The one-touch auto up-and-down function enables the window to be fully opened or closed at a touch of the multiplex network master switch assembly or power window regulator switch assembly.
Variable Speed Control This control minimizes the occurrence of noise during the power window open/close operation by changing the operating speed of the power window regulator motor.
Jam Protection The jam protection function automatically stops the power window and moves it downward if an object gets jammed in the door window glass during one-touch auto-up operation or power up operation.
Catch Protection The catch protection function automatically stops the power window if an object gets caught by the door window glass during one-touch auto-down operation or power down.
Remote Control The multiplex network master switch assembly can control the up-and-down operation of the windows.
      Window Lock
      • Operation of the 3 passenger windows is disabled when the window lock switch is pressed.

      • Similarly, the power window illumination of the power window regulator switches, except the one for the driver door, are turned off to inform the occupants that the windows cannot be operated.

      Key Off Operation
      • This function makes it possible to operate the power windows for approximately 43 seconds after the power switch is turned off, if either front door is not opened.

      • If the window lock switch is off, the windows can be operated using any of the power window regulator switch assemblies. If the window lock switch is on, only the multiplex network master switch assembly can be used to operate the windows (remote operation remains possible).

      Tech Tips

The ECU built into each power window regulator motor stores the initial position of its door window glass. The initial position is not cleared even if battery terminals, fuses or the power window regulator motor connector is disconnected. However, after removing or reinstalling window components, or replacing the power window regulator sub-assembly or power window regulator motor, the stored initial position data must be cleared and/or initialization must be performed. For details, refer to the Repair Manual.

    2. Variable Speed Control

      1. Opening Power Window

        1. In order to minimize the noise when the power window open function starts operating, the power window ECU accelerates the window opening speed up to a certain position.

        2. In order to minimize the noise when the power window is opened fully, the power window ECU decelerates the window opening speed from a certain position.

      2. Closing Power Window

        1. In order to minimize the noise when the power window close function starts operating, the power window ECU accelerates the window closing speed up to a certain position.

        2. In order to minimize the noise when the power window is closed fully, the power window ECU decelerates the window closing speed from a certain position.

    3. Jam Protection Function

      1. The jam protection function automatically stops the power window and moves it downward if an object gets jammed in the door window glass during one-touch auto up operation or power up operation.

      2. The operation of the jam protection function is as described below.

Door Window Glass Position from Full Close Operation
200 mm (7.87 in.) or more Down operation until door window glass downward movement of 125 mm (4.93 in.) is reached, or 2.5 seconds elapse.
200 mm (7.87 in.) or less Down operation until door window glass downward movement of 200 mm (7.87 in.) is reached, or 5 seconds elapse.
    4. Catch Protection Function

      1. A catch protection function automatically stops the power window if an object gets caught by the door window glass during one-touch auto down operation and power down operation.

    5. Power Window Regulator Motor Assembly

      1. The magnet and Hall IC in the power window regulator motor are used in the power window jam protection function and catch protection function.

        *c Magnet - -
      2. The Hall IC converts the changes in the magnetic flux that occur through the rotation of the magnet into pulse signals and outputs them to the ECU built-into the power window regulator motor.

      3. To control the jam protection function and catch protection function, the ECU determines the amount of movement and determines if the window glass is jamming based on the pulse signal A from the Hall IC; The direction of the window glass movement is determined based on the phase difference between the pulses from Hall IC signals A and B.

  2. FAIL-SAFE

    1. If a Hall IC in the power window regulator motor malfunctions, some power window functions will be prohibited for the fail-safe mode:

      1. Each power window only operates when the corresponding power window switch is fully pushed down or pulled up and held in that position.

  3. DIAGNOSIS

    1. When any power window ECU detects the following condition, it switches to fail-safe mode.

      1. An abnormality in a Hall IC that detects the position, speed and direction of the window.
