SFI SYSTEM(w/o Canister Pump Module), Diagnostic DTC:P15E512, P15E514

DTC Code DTC Name
P15E512 Piston Oil Cooling Pressure Sensor Circuit Short to Battery
P15E514 Piston Oil Cooling Pressure Sensor Circuit Short to Ground or Open

DESCRIPTION

B006EMQE55

The oil pressure sender gauge assembly is installed between the oil pressure switching valve assembly and oil jet. The oil pressure sender gauge assembly detects the oil pressure that is changed by oil jet stop valve control and feeds back this information to the ECM.

The oil pressure sender gauge assembly contains a semiconductor pressure sensor whose electrical resistance changes when pressure is applied. The oil pressure sender gauge assembly uses this sensor to convert the engine oil pressure to an electrical signal, which it amplifies and sends to the ECM as the engine oil pressure signal.

DTC No. Detection Item DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area MIL Memory Note
P15E512 Piston Oil Cooling Pressure Sensor Circuit Short to Battery The oil pressure sender gauge assembly output voltage is higher than 4.78 V for 5 seconds or more (1 trip detection logic).
  • Open or short in oil pressure sender gauge assembly circuit

  • Oil pressure sender gauge assembly

  • ECM

- DTC stored SAE: P15E8
P15E514 Piston Oil Cooling Pressure Sensor Circuit Short to Ground or Open The oil pressure sender gauge assembly output voltage is less than 0.23 V for 5 seconds or more (1 trip detection logic).
  • Open or short in oil pressure sender gauge assembly circuit

  • Oil pressure sender gauge assembly

  • ECM

- DTC stored SAE: P15E7

MONITOR DESCRIPTION

The ECM calculates the engine oil pressure based on the output voltage of the oil pressure sender gauge assembly. If the signal output from the oil pressure sender gauge assembly is outside of the specified range, a DTC is stored.

MONITOR STRATEGY

Frequency of Operation Continuous

CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN

  1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

  2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

  3. Turn the GTS on.

  4. Clear the DTCs (even if no DTCs are stored, perform the clear DTC procedure).

  5. Turn the engine switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.

  6. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

  7. Turn the GTS on.

  8. Wait 10 seconds or more.

  9. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.

  10. Read the pending DTCs.

    Tech Tips

    • If a pending DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.

    • If a pending DTC is not output, perform the following procedure.

  11. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Utility / All Readiness.

  12. Input the DTC: P15E512 or P15E514.

  13. Check the DTC judgment result.

    GTS Display Description
    NORMAL
    • DTC judgment completed

    • System normal

    ABNORMAL
    • DTC judgment completed

    • System abnormal

    INCOMPLETE
    • DTC judgment not completed

    • Perform driving pattern after confirming DTC enabling conditions

Tech Tips

  • If the judgment result is NORMAL, the system is normal.

  • If the judgment result is ABNORMAL, the system is malfunctioning.

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

Tech Tips

Read Freeze Frame Data using the GTS. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as Freeze Frame Data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, Freeze Frame Data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

PROCEDURE

  1. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR

    Tech Tips

Make sure that the connector is properly connected. If it is not, securely connect it and check for DTCs again.

    1. Disconnect the oil pressure sender gauge assembly connector.

    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
D62-3 (VC) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) 4.5 to 5.5 V
D62-2 (POUT) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) Below 0.1 V
    4. Turn the engine switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.

    5. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      D62-2 (POUT) - D62-1 (GND) Engine switch off 190 to 210 kΩ
