| DTC Code | DTC Name |
|---|---|
| P3190 | Poor Engine Power |
| P3191 | Engine does not Start |
| P3193 | Fuel Run Out |
DESCRIPTION
From the hybrid vehicle control ECU, the ECM receives data such as power output required for the engine (required output), estimated torque produced by the engine (estimated torque), engine speed of control target (target speed), and whether the engine is in start mode or not. Then, based on the required output and target speed, the ECM calculates a target torque that is to be produced by the engine and compares it with the estimated torque. If the estimated torque is very low compared with the target torque, or the engine start mode continues for the specific duration calculated by the coolant temperature, an abnormal condition is detected.
| DTC No. | DTC Detection Condition | Trouble Area |
|---|---|---|
| P3190 | Following conditions continue at a fixed engine speed or a fixed length of time (1 trip detection logic):
|
|
| P3191 | Following conditions continue at a fixed engine speed or a fixed length of time (1 trip detection logic):
|
|
| P3193 | Fuel low level signal input into ECM (1 trip detection logic). |

MONITOR DESCRIPTION
The ECM and hybrid vehicle control ECU are connected using CAN communication. The ECM sends engine speed data and other data to the hybrid vehicle control ECU while the hybrid vehicle control ECU sends information such as a requirement for engine power to the ECM using CAN communication. When the communication between the ECM and hybrid vehicle control ECU is normal and the following items meet the specified conditions, the ECM illuminates the MIL and stores a DTC.
Engine speed
Target torque
Ratio of target torque against estimated torque
Fuel level

|
Tech Tips
If the judgment result shows NORMAL, the system is normal.
If the judgment result shows ABNORMAL, the system has a malfunction.
If the judgment result shows INCOMPLETE or N/A, perform the Confirmation Driving Pattern and check the DTC judgment result again.
CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT
Tech Tips
Performing this diagnosis procedure repeatedly for symptom confirmation may cause the SOC to drop, preventing the system from entering the READY-on state. In this case, use the THS charger to charge the HV battery.
Cranking the engine once causes the SOC to drop approximately 1%.
Charging the HV battery once (10 minutes) using the THS charger restores the SOC approximately 2%.
Charging the HV battery using the THS charger takes approximately 10 minutes when the HV battery temperature is 25°C (77°F) or approximately 30 minutes when the HV battery temperature is 0°C (32°F).
The THS charger is a supplemental charging device that charges the HV battery enough to enable the engine to start (the vehicle can enter the READY-on state).
Read freeze frame data using the GTS. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.
PROCEDURE
CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P3190, P3191 AND/OR P3193)
Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
Turn the power switch on (IG).
Turn the GTS on.
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.
Read the DTCs.

| DTC P3190, P3191 and/or P3193 are output | A |
| DTC P3190, P3191 and/or P3193 and other DTCs are output | B |
Tech Tips
If any other codes besides P3190, P3191 and/or P3193 are output, perform troubleshooting for those DTCs first.

CHECK SHORTAGE OF FUEL
Check the amount of fuel remaining.
| OK |

| There is enough fuel. |
Tech Tips
DTCs P3190, P3191 and/or P3193 may be output if the vehicle run out of fuel in the past.
When an insufficient amount of fuel is added to the vehicle and when the hybrid control system will not engage because the DTCs P3190, P3191 and/or P3193 that are output regard the vehicle as out of fuel, continue refueling the vehicle until the fuel level warning turns off.

INSPECT FREEZE FRAME DATA
Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
Turn the power switch on (IG).
Turn the GTS on.
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT Trouble Codes / Freeze Frame Data.
Calculate the requested torque* and compare it with Actual Engine Torque.
Tech Tips
*: The requested torque is calculated by putting "Requested Engine Torque" and "HV Target Engine Speed" from the freeze frame data into the following formula:
Requested torque = Requested Engine Torque (kW) / HV Target Engine Speed (rpm) x 9554
| Standard |
|---|
| Actual Engine Torque is 60% or higher of the request torque. |

Tech Tips
The A/C switch and all accessory switches should be off.
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Control the EGR Step Position / All Data / MAP.
Check the MAP value in the Data List while performing the Active Test.
Tech Tips
Do not leave the EGR valve open for 10 seconds or more during the Active Test.
Be sure to return the EGR valve to step 0 when the Active Test is completed.
Do not open the EGR valve 30 steps or more during the Active Test.

Tech Tips
If the Active Test cannot be performed due to a malfunction such as the engine not starting, perform the EGR valve assembly inspection in the following step.
While performing the Active Test, if the increase in the value of MAP is small, the EGR valve assembly may be a malfunctioning.
Even if the EGR valve assembly is malfunctioning, rough idling or an increase in the value of MAP may occur while performing the Active Test. However, the amount that the value of MAP increases will be smaller than normal.
