PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM ADJUSTMENT

PROCEDURE

  1. INSPECT PARKING BRAKE LEVER TRAVEL

    1. Firmly pull the parking brake lever.

    2. Release the parking brake lever lock and return it to its off position.

      Slowly pull the parking brake lever to the fully applied position, counting the number of clicks.

      Parking Brake Lever Travel

      5 to 8 notches at 196 N (20 kgf, 44.1 lbf)

      If the parking brake lever travel is not as specified, adjust the parking brake lever travel.

  2. ADJUST PARKING BRAKE LEVER TRAVEL

    1. Remove the parking brake hole cover sub-assembly.

    2. Adjust rear drum brake shoe clearance.

      Click here

    3. Fully pull the parking brake lever 3 to 5 times with the engine stopped.

    4. Release the parking brake lever lock and return it to its off position.

      No. 2 Wire Adjusting Nut

      Turn the No. 2 wire adjusting nut until the parking brake lever travel is corrected to within the specified range.

      Parking Brake Lever Travel

      5 to 8 notches at 196 N (20 kgf, 44.1 lbf)

      Note:

      If the No. 2 wire adjusting nut has been removed from the rod, replace the No. 2 wire adjusting nut with a new one.

    6. Operate the parking brake lever 3 to 4 times, and check the parking brake lever travel.

      Parking Brake Lever Travel

      5 to 8 notches at 196 N (20 kgf, 44.1 lbf)

    7. Check that there is no brake drag against the shoe.

    8. Install the parking brake hole cover sub-assembly.

  3. INSPECT BRAKE WARNING LIGHT

    1. When operating the parking brake lever, check that the brake warning light illuminates.

      Standard

      The brake warning light always illuminates at the first click.
