STEERING KNUCKLE (for 4WD and Pre-Runner) INSTALLATION

Tech Tips


  • Use the same procedures for the RH side and LH side.

  • The procedures listed below are for the LH side.

  • A bolt without a torque specification is shown in the standard bolt chart Click here.


  1. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB ASSEMBLY

    A01DZ9UE01

    1. Apply MP grease to a new O-ring.

    2. Install the new O-ring to the axle hub.

    3. Install the dust cover and axle hub to the steering knuckle with the 4 bolts.

      Torque:
      80 N*m  { 816 kgf*cm, 59 ft.*lbf }

  2. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB DUST SEAL (for 4WD)

    1. Using SST and a press, press in a new dust seal.

  3. INSTALL KNUCKLE GREASE RETAINER CAP LH (for Pre-Runner)

    1. Using a brass bar and hammer, install a new retainer cap.

      Note

      Do not damage the retainer cap.

  4. CONNECT FRONT SUSPENSION UPPER ARM ASSEMBLY LH

    A01DZVOE01

    1. Connect the upper arm with the nut.

      Torque:
      110 N*m  { 1,122 kgf*cm, 81 ft.*lbf }

    2. Install a new clip.

      Note

      If the holes for the clip are not aligned, tighten the nut an additional 60°.

  5. CONNECT FRONT SUSPENSION LOWER ARM ASSEMBLY WITH ATTACHMENT LH

    1. Connect the suspension arm with the 2 bolts.

      Torque:
      160 N*m  { 1,632 kgf*cm, 118 ft.*lbf }

  6. CONNECT TIE ROD END SUB-ASSEMBLY LH

    1. Connect the tie rod end with the nut.

      Torque:
      91 N*m  { 928 kgf*cm, 67 ft.*lbf }

    2. Install a new cotter pin.

      Note

      If the holes for the cotter pin are not aligned, tighten the nut an additional 60°.

  7. CONNECT FRONT STABILIZER LINK ASSEMBLY LH

    1. Connect the stabilizer link with the nut.

      Torque:
      70 N*m  { 714 kgf*cm, 52 ft.*lbf }

      Tech Tips

      If the ball joint turns together with the nut, use a 6 mm hexagon wrench to hold the stud.

  8. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB NUT (for 4WD)

    1. Install the hub nut.

      Torque:
      235 N*m  { 2,396 kgf*cm, 173 ft.*lbf }

    2. Install the adjusting cap and a new cotter pin.

      Note

      If the holes for the cotter pin are not aligned, tighten the nut an additional 60°.

  9. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB GREASE CAP (for 4WD)


    1. Install a new grease cap to the axle hub.

  10. INSTALL FRONT DISC

  11. INSTALL FRONT DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY LH

    1. Install the disc brake cylinder with the 2 bolts.

      Torque:
      123 N*m  { 1,254 kgf*cm, 91 ft.*lbf }
    2. A01DVD7E01

      Install the brake tube bracket to the steering knuckle with the bolt.

      Torque:
      29 N*m  { 296 kgf*cm, 21 ft.*lbf }
    3. A01E019E01

      Using SST, connect the brake tube to the disc brake cylinder.

      15 N*m  { 155 kgf*cm, 11 ft.*lbf, for use without SST }
      14 N*m  { 143 kgf*cm, 10 ft.*lbf, for use with SST }

      Tech Tips

      Use a torque wrench with a fulcrum length of 30 cm (11.81 in.).

  12. INSTALL SPEED SENSOR FRONT LH

    A01DZZG

    1. Install the speed sensor with the bolt.

    2. Connect the 2 clamps.

      Torque:
      8.5 N*m  { 87 kgf*cm, 75 in.*lbf }

    3. Install the speed sensor wire harness to the steering knuckle with the bolt.

      Torque:
      32 N*m  { 326 kgf*cm, 24 ft.*lbf }

  13. BLEED BRAKE LINE

  14. INSTALL FRONT WHEEL

    Torque:
    105 N*m  { 1,071 kgf*cm, 77 ft.*lbf }
