STOP AND START SYSTEM


  1. CONSTRUCTION


    1. An electric oil pump is used only on models with CVT.

    2. The electric oil pump for CVT is provided for the stop and start system and is controlled by the engine stop and start ECU.

    3. The electric oil pump for CVT enables a stable CVT fluid supply during idle stop, and delivers good responsiveness and smoothness at the time of start off.

    4. The electric oil pump for CVT only operates when the engine is in the idle stop status. While the engine is operating, CVT fluid is supplied from the regular oil pump assembly.

    5. The electric oil pump for CVT consists of an oil pump motor driver section, DC sensorless and brushless motor section, and oil pump section.

    6. The oil pump motor driver controls the electric oil pump for CVT according to the signals from the engine stop and start ECU.

  2. OPERATION


    1. The oil pump assembly in the CVT, which is powered by the engine, generates oil pressure. When the oil pump assembly is generating sufficient oil pressure, the electric oil pump for CVT is not operating and is isolated by a check valve located in the discharge section of the electric oil pump for CVT.

    2. During idle stop operation, the oil pump assembly in the CVT stops generating oil pressure. At this time, the electric oil pump for CVT operates and generates oil pressure to open the check valve and supply oil pressure to the CVT valve body.

    3. During engine automatic start operation, oil pressure generated by both the electric oil pump for CVT and the oil pump assembly is applied to the system. When the oil pressure generated by the oil pump assembly exceeds the oil pressure generated by the electric oil pump for CVT, the check valve closes and the oil pressure generated from the electric oil pump for CVT is no longer applied. The electric oil pump for CVT stops according to engine speed signals.
