MULTI-MODE MANUAL TRANSAXLE SYSTEM, Diagnostic DTC:P0920

DTC Code DTC Name
P0920 Gear Shift Forward Actuator Circuit

DESCRIPTION

C256996C01

*a

Shift and Select Actuator Operation

*b

Shift Direction

*c

Select Direction

The shift and select actuator is operated by the TCM and changes the transaxle gear by the shift and select lever shaft movement. An electric motor (shift motor) moves the shift and select lever shaft in the shift direction, and the shift stroke sensor, which is mounted on the shift and select actuator assembly, detects the shift position. The TCM monitors the electrical current and shift motor output terminal voltage, and detects malfunctions in the shift motor circuit.

Gear Shift Forward Actuator Circuit

The TCM detects the following conditions:

(1-trip detection logic)

  1. Shift motor is not energized.

  2. Voltages of shift motor terminal (MSF+ or MSF-) is less than 0.5 V*1, or more than threshold*2 for 0.5 seconds.

  3. +BM voltage is 10 V or more.

The TCM detects the following conditions:

(1-trip detection logic)

  1. Shift motor is energized

  2. Target shift motor current is more than 5 A.

  3. Actual shift motor current is less than 1 A*3.

The TCM detects the following conditions:

(1-trip detection logic)

  1. Shift motor is not energized.

  2. Difference between maximum and minimum voltages of shift motor terminal (MSF+ or MSF-) is more than threshold*4 for 0.5 seconds.

  3. +BM voltage is 10 V or more.

  • Shift and select actuator assembly (shift motor)

  • Wire harness or connector

  • TCM

DTC stored

  • *1: A short between the shift motor circuit and the body ground is suspected.

  • *2: A short between the shift motor circuit and the +B circuit is suspected.

  • *3: An open in the shift motor circuit is suspected. If the motor current does not flow to the TCM terminals despite the TCM ordering the shift motor to operate, the TCM stores this DTC.

  • *4: An open in the shift motor circuit is suspected. If the difference is more than the threshold despite the TCM not ordering the shift motor to operate, the TCM stores this DTC.

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

Note:

In shift stroke sensor or shift and select actuator assembly replacement, perform the [Initialization and Learning] procedure and [Synchronization Position Calibration] procedure after installing the sensor or actuator assembly. If the sensor or actuator is installed without performing [Initialization and Learning] and [Synchronization Position Calibration], it may cause driving performance degradation or system component breakage.
