ENGINE UNIT INSPECTION
PROCEDURE
INSPECT CAMSHAFT
-
Inspect the camshaft for runout.
Place the camshaft on V-blocks.
Using a dial indicator, measure the runout at the center journal.
Maximum Runout
0.008 mm (0.000314 in.)
If the runout is more than the maximum, replace the camshaft.
-
Inspect the cam lobes.
Using a micrometer, measure the cam lobe height.
Standard Cam Lobe Height
41.6 mm (1.64 in.)
If the cam lobe height is less than the standard value, replace the camshaft.
-
Inspect the camshaft journals.
Using a micrometer, measure the journal diameter.
Standard Journal Diameter
23.959 to 23.98 mm (0.943 to 0.944 in.)
If the journal diameter is not as specified, replace the camshaft.
-
*a
Cam Lift Height
Inspect the cam lifts.
Using a vernier caliper, measure the cam lift height.
Standard Cam Lift Height
8.6 mm (0.339 in.)
If the cam lift height is less than the standard value, replace the camshaft.
-
INSPECT NO. 2 CAMSHAFT
-
Inspect the No. 2 camshaft for runout.
Place the No. 2 camshaft on V-blocks.
Using a dial indicator, measure the runout at the center journal.
Maximum Runout
0.008 mm (0.000314 in.)
If the runout is more than the maximum, replace the No. 2 camshaft.
-
Inspect the cam lobes.
Using a micrometer, measure the cam lobe height.
Standard Cam Lobe Height
51.5 mm (2.03 in.)
If the cam lobe height is less than the standard value, replace the No. 2 camshaft.
-
Inspect the camshaft journals.
Using a micrometer, measure the journal diameter.
Standard Journal Diameter
23.959 to 23.98 mm (0.943 to 0.944 in.)
If the journal diameter is not as specified, replace the No. 2 camshaft.
-
*a
Cam Lift Height
Inspect the cam lifts.
Using a vernier caliper, measure the cam lift height.
Standard Cam Lift Height
5.15 mm (0.203 in.)
If the cam lift height is less than the standard value, replace the No. 2 camshaft.
-
INSPECT OIL PUMP CHAIN
Visually check the oil pump chain for wear or cracks.
Note:If the oil pump chain is not normal, replace the oil pump chain and check the oil pump drive gear side too.
