WINDSHIELD GLASS REMOVAL

PROCEDURE

  1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

    Note:
    • After turning the engine switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal notice before proceeding with work.

    • When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected.

  2. REMOVE UPPER RADIATOR SUPPORT SEAL

  3. REMOVE ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER LH

  4. REMOVE ENGINE ROOM COVER SIDE

  5. REMOVE FRONT FENDER SIDE PANEL PROTECTOR LH

  6. REMOVE FRONT FENDER SIDE PANEL PROTECTOR RH

  7. REMOVE FRONT FENDER TO COWL SIDE SEAL LH

  8. REMOVE FRONT FENDER TO COWL SIDE SEAL RH

  9. REMOVE FRONT WIPER ARM HEAD CAP

  10. REMOVE FRONT WIPER ARM AND BLADE ASSEMBLY LH

  11. REMOVE FRONT WIPER ARM AND BLADE ASSEMBLY RH

  12. REMOVE HOOD TO COWL TOP SEAL

  13. REMOVE CENTER NO. 2 COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER

  14. REMOVE COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER SUB-ASSEMBLY

  15. REMOVE FRONT PANEL COVER LH (w/ Heated Windshield Defroster System)

    1. B407882

      Disconnect the connector.

    2. Detach the clamp.

    3. Detach the 3 claws and remove the front panel cover LH.

  16. REMOVE WINDSHIELD LOWER OUTSIDE MOULDING LH

      Remove the windshield lower outside moulding LH.

      1. Put protective tape around the moulding.

      2. Using a moulding remover, detach the 5 clips and remove the moulding.

        Note:
        • When removing the windshield lower outside moulding, be careful not to damage the roof drip side finish moulding clip.

        • If a roof drip side finish moulding clip is damaged or becomes detached from the vehicle, replace it with a new one.

  17. REMOVE WINDSHIELD LOWER OUTSIDE MOULDING RH

    Tip:

    Use the same procedure described for the LH side.

  18. REMOVE NO. 1 WINDSHIELD OUTSIDE MOULDING CLIP

    1. Remove the 5 No. 1 windshield outside moulding clips.

      Tip:

      Use the same procedure to remove the 5 clips on the other side.

  19. REMOVE NO. 3 WINDSHIELD OUTSIDE MOULDING CLIP

    Tip:

    Perform the following procedures if replacing any No. 3 windshield outside moulding clips.

    1. Put a 5 mm (0.157 in.) drill bit into a drill.

    2. Wind tape around the drill bit approximately 5 mm (0.197 in.) from the tip of the drill.

      Tip:

      Tape the 5 mm (0.157 in.) drill bit to prevent the drill bit from going too deep.

      Lightly press the drill against the No. 3 windshield outside moulding clips, drill off the flanges of the No. 3 windshield outside moulding clips, and remove them.

      Note:
      • Pressing the drill too firmly will cause the No. 3 windshield outside moulding clip to turn and result in the No. 3 windshield outside moulding clip not being drilled through.

      • Do not pry the No. 3 windshield outside moulding clips with the drill because this may cause damage to the installation holes of the No. 3 windshield outside moulding clips or the drill bit.

      CAUTION:

      Be careful of the drilled No. 3 windshield outside moulding clips as they may become hot.

    4. Using a vacuum cleaner, remove the No. 3 windshield outside moulding clip fragments and shavings from the drilled areas.

      Tip:

      Use the same procedure to remove clips on the other side.

  23. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM BOARD RH

  24. REMOVE FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM WEATHERSTRIP LH

  25. REMOVE FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM WEATHERSTRIP RH

  26. REMOVE FRONT NO. 1 ASSIST GRIP PLUG LH

  27. REMOVE FRONT NO. 1 ASSIST GRIP PLUG RH

  28. REMOVE NO. 1 ASSIST GRIP

  29. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH LH

  30. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH RH

  31. REMOVE VISOR BRACKET COVER

  32. REMOVE VISOR ASSEMBLY LH

  33. REMOVE VISOR ASSEMBLY RH

  34. REMOVE VISOR HOLDER

  35. REMOVE MAP LIGHT ASSEMBLY

  36. REMOVE RAIN SENSOR COVER

  37. REMOVE RAIN SENSOR

  38. REMOVE INNER REAR VIEW MIRROR STAY HOLDER COVER

  39. REMOVE INNER REAR VIEW MIRROR ASSEMBLY

  40. REMOVE ROOF HEADLINING ASSEMBLY

    1. Partially remove the roof headlining.

      Tip:

      It is not necessary to completely remove the roof headlining. Slightly lower the front section of the roof headlining so that the windshield glass can be removed in a later step.

  41. REMOVE WINDSHIELD GLASS

    Note:

    The stoppers are located on the windshield glass as shown in the illustration. Be careful not to damage the windshield glass when removing the stoppers.

    Tip:

    Depending on the vehicle specifications, a 1-piece or 2-piece type stopper is used.

      Protective Tape

      Apply protective tape to the outer surface of the vehicle body to prevent scratches.

      Stopper

      From the interior, insert a piano wire between the vehicle body and glass as shown in the illustration.

    3. Tie objects that can serve as handles (for example, wooden blocks) to both wire ends.

      Note:
      • When separating the glass from the vehicle, be careful not to damage the vehicle paint or interior/exterior ornaments.

      • To prevent the instrument panel from being scratched when removing the glass, place a plastic sheet between the piano wire and instrument panel.

      Matchmark

      Place matchmarks over the glass and vehicle body at the locations indicated in the illustration.

      Note:

      Matchmarks do not need to be placed if not reusing the glass.

    5. w/ Windshield Deicer System:

      Disconnect the windshield deicer connector.

      w/ Heated Windshield Defroster System:

      1. Disconnect the 2 connectors.

      2. Detach the clamp.

    7. Cut through the adhesive by pulling the piano wire around the glass.

      Note:

      Leave as much adhesive on the vehicle body as possible when removing the glass.

    8. Disconnect the stoppers.

      Using suction cups, remove the glass.

  42. REMOVE WINDSHIELD GLASS ADHESIVE DAM

    1. Using a scraper, remove the adhesive dam.

      Note:
      • Be careful not to damage the windshield glass.

      • Be sure to replace the adhesive dam with a new one.

  43. REMOVE WINDSHIELD OUTSIDE MOULDING

    1. Using a scraper, remove the moulding.

      Note:
      • Be careful not to damage the windshield glass.

      • Be sure to replace the moulding with a new one.

  44. REMOVE NO. 2 WINDSHIELD GLASS STOPPER

    1. Using a scraper, remove the 2 stoppers.

      Note:
      • Be careful not to damage the windshield glass.

      • Be sure to replace the stoppers with new ones.

  45. REMOVE NO. 1 WINDSHIELD GLASS STOPPER (for 2-piece Type)

      Remove the 2 No. 1 stoppers.

      Note:

      Be sure to replace the No. 1 stoppers with new ones.

  46. CLEAN WINDSHIELD GLASS

    1. Using a scraper, remove the damaged stoppers, dam and adhesive sticking to the glass.

    2. Clean the outer circumference of the glass with non-residue solvent.

      Note:
      • Do not touch the surface of the glass after cleaning it.

      • Be careful not to damage the glass.

      • Even if using new glass, clean the glass with non-residue solvent.

  47. CLEAN VEHICLE BODY

    Adhesive

    Vehicle Body

    1. Clean and shape the contact surface of the vehicle body.

      1. On the contact surface of the vehicle body, use a knife to cut away excess adhesive as shown in the illustration.

        Note:

        Be careful not to damage the vehicle body.

        Tip:

        Leave as much adhesive on the vehicle body as possible.

    2. Clean the contact surface of the vehicle body with cleaner.

      Tip:

      Even if all the adhesive has been removed, clean the vehicle body.
