CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT
If work is performed without first securing the vehicle, the vehicle may start moving and cause a serious accident or other disaster. Therefore, be sure to apply the parking brake and use wheel chocks to secure the vehicle before performing work.
Perform the parking lock release operation with the vehicle level.
PROCEDURE
SECURE VEHICLE
Apply the parking brake.
Turn the power switch off and use wheel chocks to secure the vehicle.
During power failure, make sure use wheel chocks to secure the vehicle as the parking brake cannot be used.
PARKING LOCK FORCED RELEASE
Remove the console upper panel assembly.

Release Parking Lock | - | - |
While the brake pedal is depressed, use a tool to turn the hexagonal portion approximately 60° clockwise and release the parking lock.
If excessively large amounts of torque is applied, parts may be damaged.
If rotated in the opposite direction, parts may be damaged.
Torque required to release lock: Approx. 9.0 N*m (92 kgf*cm, 80 in.*lbf)
After it is released, the hexagonal portion will return to its original position but the parking lock will stay released.
PARKING LOCK
After finishing the procedure, press the parking switch with the power switch turned on (IG) to activate the parking lock.
