METER / GAUGE SYSTEM ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION


  1. CHECK SPEEDOMETER


    1. Check the speedometer operation.

      Note


      • Do not use worn, underinflated or overinflated tires, as the speedometer reading will be inaccurate.

        For Australian speedometers, check that the meter indication is within the acceptable ranges specified for the ID number on the meter (for the location of the ID number, refer to the illustration).


      1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

      2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

      3. Turn the intelligent tester on.

      4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List.

      5. Check the deflection width of the speedometer indicator.

        If the result is not as specified, the speedometer may have a malfunction.

  2. CHECK OUTPUT SIGNAL OF VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR

    1. Check the output signal waveform


      1. Remove the combination meter, but do not disconnect the connector.

      2. Using an oscilloscope, check the waveform of the combination meter.

        • As vehicle speed increases, the wavelength shortens.

        • If the result is not as specified, the speedometer may have a malfunction.

  3. CHECK TACHOMETER (w/ Tachometer)


    1. Check the tachometer operation.


      1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

      2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

      3. Turn the intelligent tester on.

      4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List.

  4. CHECK FUEL SUCTION WITH PUMP AND GAUGE OR FUEL TANK VENT TUBE SUB-ASSEMBLY

    1. Disconnect the F15 fuel suction with pump and gauge connector*1 or F13 fuel tank vent tube connector*2.

      *1: for 1TR-FE, 2TR-FE, 1GR-FE

      *2: for 1KD-FTV, 2KD-FTV, 5L-E

    2. Turn the ignition switch ON, and then check the position of the receiver gauge needle.

      OK
      Fuel receiver gauge indicates E.

      If the result is not as specified, the combination meter may have a malfunction.

    3. Connect terminals 2 and 3 of the wire harness side connector.

    4. Turn the ignition switch ON, and then check the position of the receiver gauge needle.

      OK
      Fuel receiver gauge indicates F.

      If the result is not as specified, the combination meter may have a malfunction.

  5. CHECK FUEL WARNING LIGHT

    1. Disconnect the F15 fuel suction with pump and gauge connector*1 or F13 fuel tank vent tube connector*2.

      *1: for 1TR-FE, 2TR-FE, 1GR-FE

      *2: for 1KD-FTV, 2KD-FTV, 5L-E

    2. Turn the ignition switch ON, and then check that the fuel receiver gauge indicates E and that the FUEL warning light turns on.

      OK
      FUEL warning light turns on.

      If the result is not as specified, the combination meter may have a malfunction.

  6. CHECK OIL PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT


    1. A01E261E01

      for 1TR-FE, 2TR-FE, 1GR-FE, 1KD-FTV, 2KD-FTV:


      1. Disconnect the E4 switch connector.

      2. Connect terminal 1 of the wire harness side connector to the body ground.

      3. Turn the ignition switch ON, and then check that the OIL PRESSURE warning light turns on.

        OK
        OIL PRESSURE warning light turns on.
    2. A01E2LOE01

      for 5L-E:


      1. Disconnect the E4 switch connector.

      2. Connect terminal 1 of the wire harness side connector to the body ground.

      3. Turn the ignition switch ON, and then check that the OIL PRESSURE warning light turns on.

        OK
        OIL PRESSURE warning light turns on.
  7. CHECK BRAKE WARNING LIGHT


    1. A01E0L5E04

      Check the parking brake warning light.


      1. Disconnect the P2 switch connector.

      2. Connect terminal 1 of the wire harness side connector to the body ground.

      3. Turn the ignition switch ON, and then check that the BRAKE warning light turns on.

        OK
        BRAKE warning light turns on.

        If the result is not as specified, the combination meter may have a malfunction.

    2. A01DZQTE01

      Check the brake fluid level warning light.


      1. Disconnect the B2 switch connector.

      2. Connect terminals 1 and 2 of the wire harness side connector.

      3. Turn the ignition switch ON, and then check that the BRAKE warning light turns on.

        OK
        BRAKE warning light turns on.

        If the result is not as specified, the combination meter may have a malfunction.

    3. for 1KD-FTV (w/ VSC):

      Check the vacuum pump warning light.

        Disconnect the B9 switch connector.

      2. Connect terminals 1 and 2 of the wire harness side connector.

      3. Turn the ignition switch ON, and then check that the BRAKE warning light turns on.

        OK
        BRAKE warning light turns on.

        If the result is not as specified, the combination meter may have a malfunction.

    4. for 1KD-FTV, 2KD-FTV, 5L-E (w/o VSC):

      Check the vacuum pump warning light.

        Disconnect the B3 switch connector.

      2. Connect terminal 1 of the wire harness side connector to the body ground.

      3. Turn the ignition switch ON, and then check that the BRAKE warning light turns on.

        OK
        BRAKE warning light turns on.

        If the result is not as specified, the combination meter may have a malfunction.

  8. CHECK FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELT WARNING LIGHT (w/ Front Passenger Seat Belt Warning System)


    1. A01DXITE15

      Disconnect the F17 belt connector.

    2. Connect terminals 1 and 2 of the wire harness side connector.

    3. Turn the ignition switch ON, and then check that the warning light blinks.

      OK
      Seat belt warning light for passenger side blinks.

      If the result is not as specified, the multi-display*1 or passenger seat belt warning light*2 may have a malfunction.
