FUEL SYSTEM PRECAUTION

CAUTION:

  • Before working on the fuel system, disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

  • Do not smoke or be near an open flame when working on the fuel system.

  • Keep gasoline away from rubber or leather parts.

  1. DISCHARGE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE

    CAUTION:

    • Do not disconnect any part of the fuel system until you have discharged the fuel system pressure.

    • Even after discharging the fuel pressure, place a cloth or equivalent over fittings as you separate them to reduce the risk of fuel spray on yourself or in the engine compartment.

Disconnect the fuel tank wire connector.

    2. Start the engine. After the engine has stopped on its own, turn the ignition switch off.

      Tech Tips

DTCs C0210/33 and C0215/34 (rear speed sensor circuit) and DTC P0171/25 (system too lean) may be set.

    3. Crank the engine again, and then check that the engine does not start.

    4. Loosen the fuel tank cap assembly, and then discharge the fuel system pressure in the fuel tank assembly completely.

    5. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

      Note

      • After turning the ignition switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal notice before proceeding with work Click here.

      • When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected Click here.

    6. Connect the fuel tank wire connector.

    7. Clear the DTCs Click here.

  2. FUEL SYSTEM

    1. When disconnecting the high fuel pressure line, a large amount of gasoline will spill out, so observe the following procedures.

      1. Discharge the fuel system pressure (see above procedure).

      2. Disconnect the fuel tube.

      3. Drain the fuel that remained inside the fuel tube.

      4. Cover the disconnected fuel tubes with a plastic bag to prevent damage and contamination.

      5. Place a tray under the vehicle or connecting part to catch any fuel that may spill.

    2. Observe the following precautions when removing and installing fuel injector assemblies.

      1. Never reuse the O-ring.

      2. When placing a new O-ring on the fuel injector assembly, do not damage the O-ring.

Install the fuel injector assembly to the fuel delivery pipe sub-assembly and lower intake manifold as shown in the illustration.

      Note

Before installing the fuel injector assembly, be sure to apply spindle oil or gasoline to the place where the fuel delivery pipe sub-assembly or cylinder head sub-assembly contacts the O-ring of the fuel injector assembly.

    4. Observe the following precautions when disconnecting the fuel tube connector (quick type A):

      1. Check for dirt in the fuel pipe around the fuel tube connector before disconnecting. Clean away the dirt as necessary.

When the fuel tube connector and fuel pipe are stuck, pinch the fuel pipe with your fingers, and push and pull the fuel tube connector. Disconnect and pull the fuel tube connector out of the fuel pipe. Do not use any tools.

      5. Check for dirt or other foreign objects on the surface of the seal on the disconnected fuel pipe and clean as necessary.

      6. Do not damage the disconnected fuel pipe and fuel tube connector. Cover the disconnected fuel pipe and fuel tube connector to prevent contamination by covering them with a plastic bag.

    5. Observe the following precautions when connecting the fuel tube connector (quick type A):

      1. Check for damage or foreign objects in the connected part of the fuel pipe.

      2. A01BAXNE27

Match the axis of the fuel tube connector with the axis of the fuel pipe, and push into the fuel tube connector until the fuel tube connector makes a 'click' sound. If the connection is tight, apply a small amount of fresh engine oil to the tip of the fuel pipe.

  4. FUEL SUCTION WITH PUMP AND GAUGE TUBE ASSEMBLY

    1. A01BGZE

Do not disconnect the tube shown in the illustration when disassembling the fuel suction with pump and gauge tube assembly. Doing so will cause reassembly of the fuel suction with pump and gauge tube assembly to be impossible as the tube is welded to the plate.
