Manifold Absolute Pressure / Barometric Pressure Circuit Range / Performance Problem

When either of the following conditions is met (2 trip detection logic):

(a) The manifold absolute pressure output is 1.65 V or higher for 10 seconds when idling the engine after warming it up.

(b) The manifold absolute pressure sensor output is 0.28 V or less for 10 seconds when the accelerator opening angle is 15% or higher and the engine speed is 6000 rpm or less.

  • If DTC P0106 is stored, the following symptoms may appear:

    • Misfire

    • Combustion noise

    • Black smoke

    • White smoke

After warming up engine, idle engine for 10 seconds or more, then drive vehicle under load (accelerator opening angle 15% or higher) with engine speed at 6000 rpm or less for 10 seconds

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

Tip:
  • If DTCs P0107 and P0108 are output simultaneously, the manifold absolute pressure sensor circuit may have an open or short. Perform troubleshooting for these DTCs first.

  • Read freeze frame data using the GTS. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

PROCEDURE

  1. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P0106)

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the GTS on.

    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.

      Powertrain > Engine > Trouble Codes

    4. Read the DTCs.

      Result

      Proceed to

      DTC P0106 is output

      DTC P0106 and other DTCs are output

      Tip:

      If any DTCs other than P0106 are output, troubleshoot those DTCs first.

  2. CHECK VACUUM HOSE CONNECTIONS

    1. Check the vacuum hose connections.

      OK

      Vacuum hose is connected correctly and is not damaged.

  3. REPLACE MANIFOLD ABSOLUTE PRESSURE SENSOR

  5. CONFIRM WHETHER MALFUNCTION HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY REPAIRED

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Clear the DTCs.

      Powertrain > Engine > Clear DTCs

    5. Turn the ignition switch off for 30 seconds or more.

    6. Start the engine.

    7. After warming up the engine, idle the engine for 10 seconds or more, and then drive the vehicle under load (accelerator opening angle 15% or higher) with the engine speed at 6000 rpm or less for 10 seconds or more.

    8. Turn the GTS on.

    9. Confirm that the pending DTC is not output again.

      Tip:

      Perform the following procedure using the GTS to determine whether or not the DTC judgment has been carried out.

      1. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Utility / All Readiness.

        Powertrain > Engine > Utility

        Tester Display

        All Readiness

      2. Input DTC P0106.

      3. Check that STATUS is NORMAL. If STATUS is INCOMPLETE or N/A, drive the vehicle for 5 minutes, idle the engine for 5 minutes, and then check "All Readiness" again.
