If any of the following codes are recorded, the ECM enters fail-safe mode.
| DTC No. | Item | Fail-safe Operation | Fail-safe Deactivation Condition |
|---|---|---|---|
| P0100/31 P0102/31 P0103/31 |
Mass Air Flow Meter | If engine is running at over 3,000 rpm, ECM performs fuel cut. | "Pass" condition detected |
| P0110/24 P0112/24 P0113/24 |
Intake Air Temperature Sensor | ECM fixes intake air temperature at 20°C (68°F). | "Pass" condition detected |
| P0115/22 P0117/22 P0118/22 |
Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor |
ECM fixes engine coolant temperature at 80°C (176°F). | "Pass" condition detected |

Electronic Throttle Control System | If electronic throttle control system is malfunctioning, ECM cuts off current to throttle actuator. Throttle control valve returns to predetermined throttle position (approximately 6.5°) by force of return spring. Then, required engine power is calculated by using ignition timing and accelerator pedal position. Engine is controlled by intermittent fuel-cut. If accelerator pedal is depressed firmly and slowly, vehicle can be driven at minimum speed. If accelerator pedal is depressed quickly, vehicle may speed up and slow down erratically. |
"Pass" condition detected and then ignition switch turned OFF |

Knock Sensor | ECM sets ignition timing delay to maximum. | Ignition switch turned to OFF |
| P0351/14 P0352/15 P0353/14 P0354/15 |
Igniter | If engine is running at over 500 rpm, ECM performs fuel cut in malfunctioning cylinders. Engine performs fuel cut in all cylinders if: 1) engine is running at over 1,500 rpm, and 2) engine load rate is 20 to 89% or more. |
"Pass" condition detected |
