DIFFERENTIAL CASE REASSEMBLY

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

Note:

  • When the front differential case front tapered roller bearing is removed, the front differential case front tapered roller bearing and front differential case front tapered roller bearing outer race need to be replaced.

  • When the front differential case front tapered roller bearing is not removed, the front differential case front tapered roller bearing and front differential case front tapered roller bearing outer race can be reused.

  • When the front differential case rear tapered roller bearing is removed, the front differential case rear tapered roller bearing and front differential case rear tapered roller bearing outer race need to be replaced.

  • When the front differential case rear tapered roller bearing is not removed, the front differential case rear tapered roller bearing and front differential case rear tapered roller bearing outer race can be reused.

PROCEDURE

  1. INSTALL FRONT DIFFERENTIAL GEAR SET

    1. C306784

      Coat the contact surfaces of the front differential side gears, front differential pinion gear, front differential pinion thrust washer and front differential side gear seal with gear oil.

    2. Install the 2 front differential pinion thrust washers to the 2 front differential pinion gears.

      Front Differential Pinion Gear

      Install the 2 front differential side gears, front differential side gear seal and 2 front differential pinion gears to the front differential case assembly with ring gear.

      Tip:

      While rotating the front differential pinion gears, install the 2 front differential pinion gears to front differential case assembly with ring gear.

  2. INSTALL FRONT NO. 1 DIFFERENTIAL PINION SHAFT

    1. C305394

      Coat the front No. 1 differential pinion shaft with gear oil.

    2. Install the front No. 1 differential pinion shaft to the front differential case assembly with ring gear.

  3. INSTALL FRONT DIFFERENTIAL CASE SNAP RING

      Install the front differential case snap ring to the front differential case assembly with ring gear.

      Note:

      Make sure that the front differential case snap ring is correctly located in the groove of the front differential case assembly ring gear.

  4. INSTALL FRONT DIFFERENTIAL CASE REAR TAPERED ROLLER BEARING

      Using SST and a press, install a new front differential case rear tapered roller bearing to the front differential case assembly with ring gear.

      Note:

      Be sure to install the front differential case rear tapered roller bearing so that there is no clearance between the front differential case rear tapered roller bearing and front differential case assembly with ring gear.

  5. INSTALL FRONT DIFFERENTIAL CASE FRONT TAPERED ROLLER BEARING

      Using SST and a press, install a new front differential case front tapered roller bearing to the front differential case assembly with ring gear.

      Note:

      Be sure to install the front differential case front tapered roller bearing so that there is no clearance between the front differential case front tapered roller bearing and front differential case assembly with ring gear.

  6. INSTALL SPEEDOMETER DRIVE GEAR

      Engage the 2 claws to install a new speedometer drive gear to the front differential case assembly with ring gear.

      Note:

      Make sure to insert the speedometer drive gear claws into the holes of the front differential case assembly with ring gear.
