VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM, Diagnostic DTC:C1290

DTC Code DTC Name
C1290 Steering Angle Sensor Zero Point Malfunction

DESCRIPTION

The skid control ECU (brake actuator assembly) acquires the steering angle sensor zero point every time the ignition switch is turned to ON and the vehicle is driven at 35 km/h (22 mph) or more for approximately 5 seconds. The ECU also stores the previous zero point.

If the front wheel alignment or steering wheel position is adjusted without disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, or if the yaw rate and acceleration sensor zero point is not acquired after the adjustments have been completed, the skid control ECU (brake actuator assembly) detects the difference between the previous zero point and newly acquired zero point and stores this DTC to indicate a poor adjustment.

The steering angle sensor zero point malfunction warning is canceled by turning the ignition switch off.

DTC Code DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area
C1290 The steering angle sensor zero point calibration position vastly differs from the recorded value.
  • Yaw rate and acceleration sensor zero point calibration incomplete

  • Poor adjustment of centered position of steering wheel

  • Poor adjustment of front wheel alignment

  • Skid control ECU (Brake actuator assembly)

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

Note

After replacing the brake actuator assembly, perform calibration Click here.

PROCEDURE

  1. PERFORM ZERO POINT CALIBRATION OF YAW RATE AND ACCELERATION SENSOR

    1. Perform zero point calibration of the yaw rate and acceleration sensor Click here.

      Tech Tips

      • When the stored zero point of the yaw rate and acceleration sensor is cleared, the steering angle sensor zero point will also be cleared.

      • If the zero point and output value of the yaw rate and acceleration sensor and the output value of the speed sensors are not normal, the steering angle sensor zero point cannot be acquired normally even if the vehicle is driven straight ahead at 35 km/h (22 mph) or more.

    NEXT
  2. CHECK STEERING ANGLE SENSOR ZERO POINT CALIBRATION

    1. Drive the vehicle straight ahead at a speed of 35 km/h (22 mph) or more for at least 5 seconds.

    2. Check that the centered position of the steering wheel is correctly set while driving straight ahead.

      Tech Tips

      • If the front wheel alignment and steering wheel position are adjusted as a result of an abnormal centered position of the steering wheel, acquire the yaw rate and acceleration sensor zero point again after the adjustments are completed.

      • If troubleshooting has been carried out according to Problem Symptoms Table, refer back to the table and proceed to the next suspected area Click here.

      OK
The centered position of the steering wheel is correctly set.

  3. RECONFIRM DTC

    1. Clear the DTC Click here.

    2. Turn the ignition switch off.

    3. Start the engine.

    4. Drive the vehicle at a speed of 35 km/h (22 mph) or more and turn the steering wheel to the right and left.

    5. Check if the same DTC is output Click here.
