FRONT DISC BRAKE PAD(for 15 inch Front Disc Brake 2WD) REPLACEMENT

Tech Tips


  • Use the same procedure for the RH and LH sides.

  • The procedure listed below is for the LH side.

Note

After replacing the disc brake pads, the clearance between the disc brake pads and front discs becomes larger and the brake pedal feel becomes softer. Therefore, after replacing the disc brake pads, depress the brake pedal several times and check the clearance and brake pedal feel.

PROCEDURE


  1. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL

  2. DRAIN BRAKE FLUID

    Note

    Wash off brake fluid immediately if it comes in contact with any painted surface.

  3. REMOVE DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY LH

      *a Hold
      *b Turn

      Hold the front disc brake cylinder slide pin and remove the 2 bolts.

    2. Disconnect the disc brake cylinder assembly LH from the front disc brake cylinder mounting LH.

  4. REMOVE FRONT DISC BRAKE PAD


    1. Remove the 2 front disc brake pads from the front disc brake cylinder mounting LH.

  5. REMOVE FRONT ANTI-SQUEAL SHIM KIT


    1. Remove the 2 No. 1 anti-squeal shims and 2 No. 2 anti-squeal shims from each pad.

  6. REMOVE PAD WEAR INDICATOR PLATE

      Using a screwdriver, remove the pad wear indicator plates from the front disc brake pads as shown in the illustration.

  7. INSTALL PAD WEAR INDICATOR PLATE


    1. Install a new pad wear indicator plate to the inner lower side of the front disc brake pad.

      Note

      Install the pad wear indicator plate in the correct position and direction.

  8. INSTALL FRONT ANTI-SQUEAL SHIM KIT

      *b Outer Pad
      B00285T Area for disc brake grease application

      Apply disc brake grease to the inside of the 2 No. 1 anti-squeal shims as shown in the illustration.

      Note


      • When replacing worn pads, the No. 1 anti-squeal shims must be replaced together with the pads.

      • Apply disc brake grease to the area that contacts the No. 1 anti-squeal shims.

      • Disc brake grease can come out slightly from the area where the No. 1 anti-squeal shims are installed.

      • Make sure that disc brake grease is not applied onto the lining surface.

      *1 Front Disc Brake Pad
      *2 No. 1 Anti-squeal Shim
      *3 No. 2 Anti-squeal Shim

      Install the No. 1 anti-squeal shims and No. 2 anti-squeal shims to the pads.

      Note


      • When replacing a worn pad, the shims must be replaced together with the pads.

      • Install the shims in the correct positions and directions as shown in the illustration.

  9. INSTALL FRONT DISC BRAKE PAD

      Using SST, push back the front disc brake piston.

      Note

      Do not forcibly install the piston into the disc brake cylinder assembly LH.

    2. Install the 2 front disc brake pads to the front disc brake cylinder mounting LH.

      Note

      Make sure there is no oil or grease on the friction surfaces of the front disc brake pads and front disc.

  10. INSTALL DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY LH


    1. A01SCZQC01
      *a Hold
      *b Turn

      Hold the front disc brake cylinder slide pin and install the disc brake cylinder assembly LH to the disc brake cylinder mounting LH with the 2 bolts.

      Torque:
      34.3 N*m  { 350 kgf*cm, 25 ft.*lbf }
    2. Depress the brake pedal several times.

  11. ADD BRAKE FLUID

  12. INSTALL FRONT WHEEL
