SPEED LIMITER SYSTEM SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
SPEED LIMITER SYSTEM
Using this system, the driver can set a vehicle limit speed so that the vehicle speed does not exceed the set speed while driving. The ECM regulates the vehicle speed so as not to exceed the set speed even if the driver attempts to accelerate the vehicle by using the accelerator pedal. During kick-down operation (on sudden acceleration), however, the vehicle can be accelerated beyond the set speed.
If the actual vehicle speed is higher than the set speed, the ECM operates the throttle motor to close the throttle valve by the appropriate amount, decreasing the vehicle speed.
The ECM receives speed limiter system on/off signals from the adjustable speed limiter switch (cruise control main switch).
The ECM receives - SET, + RES and CANCEL signals from the adjustable speed limiter switch (cruise control main switch). (for 1KR-FE)
The ECM receives -, + and RES/CAN signals from the adjustable speed limiter switch (cruise control main switch). (for 1PP)
When the ECM receives an on signal from the adjustable speed limiter switch (cruise control main switch), the ECM will illuminate the speed limiter indicator on the combination meter assembly.
When a vehicle limit speed is set, the ECM displays the set speed on the combination meter assembly.
Table 1. for 1KR-FE Control
Operation
Content
Set Control
Turn the speed limiter system on using the adjustable speed limiter switch (cruise control main switch) (ON/OFF button) and press the adjustable speed limiter switch (cruise control main switch) to - SET while driving at 30 km/h or more, or 20 mph or more
The ECM stores the vehicle speed when the adjustable speed limiter switch (cruise control main switch) is released, and limits the vehicle speed to the set speed*1
Coast Control
Press the adjustable speed limiter switch (cruise control main switch) to - SET and hold it in that position while the speed limiter system is operating
The ECM decreases the vehicle limit speed by 5 km/h or 5 mph*2
Tap-down Control
Press the adjustable speed limiter switch (cruise control main switch) to - SET and then release it immediately while the speed limiter system is operating
The ECM decreases the vehicle limit speed by 1 km/h or 1 mph each time the switch is tapped
Acceleration Control
Press the adjustable speed limiter switch (cruise control main switch) to + RES and hold it in that position while the speed limiter system is operating
The ECM increases the vehicle limit speed by 5 km/h or 5 mph*2
Tap-up Control
Press the adjustable speed limiter switch (cruise control main switch) to + RES and then release it immediately while the speed limiter system is operating
The ECM increases the vehicle limit speed by 1 km/h or 1 mph each time the switch is tapped
Override Control
Fully depress the accelerator pedal while the speed limiter system is operating
The ECM determines that acceleration is needed and permits acceleration beyond the set speed*3
Cancel Control
While the speed limiter system is operating, perform either of the following operations:
Pull the adjustable speed limiter switch (cruise control main switch) to CANCEL
Turn the speed limiter system off using the adjustable speed limiter switch (cruise control main switch) (ON/OFF button)
The ECM cancels speed limiter system operation
Resume Control
After the speed limiter system control of vehicle speed is canceled by pulling the adjustable speed limiter switch (cruise control main switch) to CANCEL, press the adjustable speed limiter switch (cruise control main switch) to + RES
The ECM resumes speed limiter system control using the vehicle limit speed set when control was canceled

Set Control
Turn the speed limiter system on using the adjustable speed limiter switch (cruise control main switch) (ON/OFF button) and press the adjustable speed limiter switch (cruise control main switch) to - while driving at 30 km/h or more, or 20 mph or more
The ECM stores the vehicle speed when the adjustable speed limiter switch (cruise control main switch) is released, and limits the vehicle speed to the set speed*1
Coast Control
Press the adjustable speed limiter switch (cruise control main switch) to - and hold it in that position while the speed limiter system is operating

Cancel Control
While the speed limiter system is operating, perform either any of the following operations:
Pull the adjustable speed limiter switch (cruise control main switch) to RES/CAN
Turn the speed limiter system off using the adjustable speed limiter switch (cruise control main switch) (ON/OFF button)
The ECM cancels speed limiter system operation
Resume Control
After the speed limiter system control of vehicle speed is canceled by pulling the adjustable speed limiter switch (cruise control main switch) to RES/CAN, pull the adjustable speed limiter switch (cruise control main switch) to RES/CAN
The ECM resumes speed limiter system control using the vehicle limit speed set when control was canceled
*1: If the adjustable speed limiter switch (cruise control main switch) is pressed to - SET (for 1KR-FE) or - (for 1PP) while the vehicle is being driven at 30 km/h or less, 20 mph or less, or the vehicle is stopped, the ECM limits the vehicle speed to 30 km/h or 20 mph.
*2: The ECM stores the vehicle speed when the adjustable speed limiter switch (cruise control main switch) is released and limits the vehicle speed to that stored speed.
*3: After acceleration, if the vehicle speed drops below the vehicle limit speed, the ECM resumes the vehicle speed to the vehicle limit speed.
