MONITOR DESCRIPTION
The ECM monitors the speed of the electric water pump assembly. If the actual speed exceeds the target speed by a certain amount or more, the ECM determines overspeed operation has occurred. If the actual speed is less than the target speed by a certain amount or more, the ECM determines that the motor is stuck and stores a DTC.
CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT
Read freeze frame data using the GTS. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.
P023A00 may be stored if there is insufficient coolant in the turbocharger and intercooler cooling system. If there is sufficient coolant in the system and P023A00 is output when the vehicle is brought to the workshop, check if the customer has added coolant in the past.
If the electric water pump assembly voltage is extremely high or low, control may be temporarily stopped and P023A71. When the voltage returns to normal, control will resume and it will not be necessary to replace the electric water pump assembly.
PROCEDURE
CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P023A00 OR P023A71)
Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
Turn the ignition switch to ON.
Turn the GTS on.
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.
Read the DTCs.
Powertrain > Engine > Trouble Codes

Tip:If any DTCs other than P023A00 or P023A71 are output, troubleshoot those DTCs first.
PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING GTS (CONTROL THE INTERCOOLER WATER PUMP)
Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
Turn the ignition switch to ON.
Turn the GTS on.
Note:Be sure to perform the inspection with the battery voltage at 11 V or higher.
Tip:If the battery voltage is low, the electric water pump assembly may stop operating.
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Control the Intercooler Water Pump / Data List / All Data / Intercooler Water Pump Speed.
Powertrain > Engine > Active Test
Active Test Display
Control the Intercooler Water Pump
Data List Display

Tip:If the electric water pump assembly voltage is extremely high or low, control may be temporarily stopped and a DTC stored.
The coolant will freeze at -15°C (5°F) at 30% coolant concentration and at -35°C (-31°F) at 50% coolant concentration.
DTC P023A71 will be stored if the electric water pump assembly cannot rotate due to freezing of the coolant.
If DTC P023A71 is stored due to freezing of the coolant, the problem cannot be reproduced. Judge whether freezing of the coolant occurred from the coolant replacement history and the ambient temperature when the DTC was stored.
