Tech Tips

If initialization is performed using the GTS with any of the connectors of the wire harnesses between the power source or ECM and the cam timing control motor with EDU assembly disconnected, DTC P001600 and/or P001800 may be stored. If DTC P001600 and/or P001800 is output, check the connection condition of each connector.

MONITOR DESCRIPTION

These DTCs are stored when a deviation in the valve timing is detected. If a deviation in the valve timing is detected when the engine is idling (during valve timing learning) after performing learning value reset using the GTS or when the vehicle is being driven, the ECM determines that a malfunction has occurred. If a deviation in the valve timing is detected in consecutive driving cycles, the ECM will illuminate the MIL and store a DTC.

    Tech Tips

    • If the judgment result is NORMAL, the system is normal.

    • If the judgment result is ABNORMAL, the system has a malfunction.

    • If the judgment result is INCOMPLETE, perform steps [E] through [G].

  15. Drive the vehicle for 10 minutes or more [E].

    CAUTION:

When performing the confirmation driving pattern, obey all speed limits and traffic laws.

  16. Idle the engine for 5 minutes or more [F].

  18. Read the pending DTCs.

    Tech Tips

    • If a pending DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.

    • If a pending DTC is not output, perform the following procedure.

  19. Check the DTC judgment result.

    Tech Tips

    • If the judgment result is NORMAL, the system is normal.

    • If the judgment result is ABNORMAL, the system has a malfunction.

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

Tech Tips

  • Read Freeze Frame Data using the GTS. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as Freeze Frame Data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, Freeze Frame Data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

  • Bank 1 refers to the bank that includes the No. 1 cylinder*.

*: The No. 1 cylinder is the cylinder which is farthest from the transmission.

  • Bank 2 refers to the bank that does not include the No. 1 cylinder.

PROCEDURE

  1. CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P001600 OR P001800)

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.

    5. Read the DTCs.
