PROCEDURE
INSTALL REAR ENGINE OIL SEAL
Clean the oil seal retainer oil seal contact surface of the crankshaft.
Apply MP grease to the lip of a new rear engine oil seal.
Note
Do not allow foreign matter to contact the lip of the timing chain case oil seal.
Do not allow MP grease to contact the dust seal.

Using SST and a hammer, tap in the rear engine oil seal.

Note
Do not tap the rear engine oil seal at an angle.
Keep the lip free of foreign matter.
INSPECT DRIVE PLATE AND RING GEAR SUB-ASSEMBLY
for 2WD:
for AWD:
INSTALL DRIVE PLATE AND RING GEAR SUB-ASSEMBLY
Using SST, hold the crankshaft pulley.
Clean the 10 bolt holes.

Install the crankshaft angle sensor rotor.
Tech Tips
Align the pin hole of the crankshaft angle sensor rotor with the pin of the crankshaft.

Install the drive plate and ring gear sub-assembly and rear drive plate spacer onto the crankshaft.
Tech Tips
As the drive plate and ring gear sub-assembly and the rear drive plate spacer are not reversible, be sure to install them so that they are facing in the direction shown in the illustration.

Apply a few drops of adhesive to 2 or 3 threads at the tip of each of 10 new bolts.

| Toyota Genuine Adhesive 1324, Three Bond 1324 or equivalent |
Note
After applying the adhesive, tighten the bolt right away.
Install and uniformly tighten the 10 new bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Note
Do not reuse the drive plate installation bolts.
Handle the drive plate installation bolts carefully. Do not scratch them or subject them to any shocks.
Do not start the engine for at least 1 hour after installing the drive plate and ring gear sub-assembly.

Mark the top of the bolts with paint.
Tighten the 10 bolts 90° in the same sequence.
Check that the paint marks are now at a 90° angle to the top.
