MULTI-MODE MANUAL TRANSAXLE SYSTEM, Diagnostic DTC:P0500

DTC Code DTC Name
P0500 Vehicle Speed Sensor "A"

DESCRIPTION

Vehicles, which are equipped with the VSC (Vehicle Stability Control) system, detect the vehicle speed using the skid control ECU and wheel speed sensor. The wheel speed sensor monitors the wheel rotation speed and sends a signal to the skid control ECU. The skid control ECU converts the wheel speed signal into a 4-pulse signal and transmits it to the TCM via the combination meter. The TCM determines the vehicle speed based on the frequency of the pulse signal.

Vehicle Speed Sensor "A"

The TCM detects the following conditions simultaneously for 4 seconds or more:

(1-trip detection logic)

  1. Vehicle is being driven: Transmission revolution sensor signal is 1,650 rpm or more

  2. Vehicle speed signal is 9 km/h (5.6 mph) or less

  3. Gear is engaged

  • Open or short in speed sensor circuit

  • Combination meter

  • Speed sensor (Brake control system)

  • Skid control ECU (Brake control system)

When DTC P0500 is output, a ground short in the wiring of terminal SPD or an internal ground short in the relevant ECU is suspected.

PROCEDURE

  1. READ VALUE USING GTS (VEHICLE SPEED)

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Multi-Mode M/T / Data List / Vehicle Speed.

    5. Drive the vehicle.

    6. According to the display on the GTS, read the Data List.

      Powertrain > Multi-Mode M/T > Data List

      (Combination Meter Assembly)

      Check the output waveform.

      1. Remove the combination meter assembly with the connector still connected.

      2. Connect an oscilloscope to terminals E46-6 (+S) and body ground.

      3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

      4. Turn the wheel slowly.

      5. Check the signal waveform according to the condition in the table below.
