SPIRAL CABLE REMOVAL

PROCEDURE

  1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

    CAUTION:

    Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    Note:
    • After turning the engine switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal notice before proceeding with work (Click here).

    • When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (Click here).

  2. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY

    1. Remove the steering wheel assembly (Click hereClick here).

  3. REMOVE LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVER

  4. REMOVE UPPER STEERING COLUMN COVER

  5. REMOVE SPIRAL WITH SENSOR CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY

      Disconnect the connectors from the spiral cable.

      Note:

      When handling the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.

    2. Detach the 3 claws and remove the spiral cable.

      Note:
      • Do not replace the spiral cable sub-assembly when the engine switch is ON and the battery cable is connected.

      • Do not rotate the spiral cable when the engine switch is ON and the battery cable is connected.

      • Make sure the steering wheel is installed and centered before rotating the steering angle sensor when performing steering angle sensor operation inspections (inspecting for abnormal noise, diagnosis inspections, etc.).

      • Do not remove the steering angle sensor from the spiral cable.
