CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

The necessary procedures (adjustment, calibration, initialization, or registration) that must be performed after parts are removed, installed, or replaced during automatic transaxle assembly removal/installation are shown below.

    The engine assembly with transaxle is very heavy. Be sure to follow the procedure described in the repair manual, or the engine lifter may suddenly drop or the engine assembly with transaxle may fall off the engine lifter.

    To prevent burns, do not touch the engine, exhaust manifold or other high temperature components while the engine is hot.

PROCEDURE


  1. REMOVE FLYWHEEL HOUSING UNDER COVER

  2. REMOVE DRIVE PLATE AND TORQUE CONVERTER ASSEMBLY SETTING BOLT

      Turn the crankshaft to gain access to the 6 drive plate and torque converter assembly setting bolts and remove each drive plate and torque converter assembly setting bolt while holding the crankshaft pulley bolt with a wrench.

      Tech Tips

      There will be one black colored drive plate and torque converter assembly setting bolt.

  3. REMOVE ENGINE ASSEMBLY WITH TRANSAXLE

  4. REMOVE STARTER ASSEMBLY

  5. DISCONNECT WIRE HARNESS

      Disconnect the park/neutral position switch assembly connector.

    2. Disconnect the rack and pinion power steering gear assembly connector.

      Tech Tips

      Release the lock before rotating the lock lever.

    3. Remove the 2 bolts to disconnect the wire harness.

      Disengage the 2 wire harness clamps to disconnect the wire harness.

    5. B0084ZU

      Disengage the 2 wire harness clamps to disconnect the wire harness.

    6. B0088UH

      Remove the 2 bolts to disconnect the 2 earth wires from the automatic transaxle assembly.

  6. REMOVE WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR


    1. B00856R

      Remove the 2 bolts.

    2. Remove the wiring harness connector from the transaxle case sub-assembly.

  7. DISCONNECT NO. 4 WATER BY-PASS HOSE

  8. DISCONNECT NO. 1 TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER HOSE ASSEMBLY

  9. REMOVE TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER

  10. REMOVE NO. 1 TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER HOSE ASSEMBLY

      Slide the 2 clips and disconnect the No. 1 transmission oil cooler hose assembly from the oil cooler tube union.

      Tech Tips

      Use a container to catch any automatic transaxle fluid which flows out of the No. 1 transmission oil cooler hose assembly and oil cooler tube union.

  12. REMOVE FRONT FRAME ASSEMBLY

  13. REMOVE FRONT ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR

      Remove the 3 bolts and front engine mounting bracket from the transaxle housing.

  15. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY


    1. Support the automatic transaxle assembly with a transmission jack.

      Note

      Secure the automatic transaxle assembly to the transmission jack using a suitable adapter, such as a rope or attachment.

      Remove the 9 bolts and automatic transaxle assembly.

      Note

      To prevent damage to the knock pins, do not pry between the automatic transaxle assembly and engine assembly.

  16. REMOVE ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR LH


    1. B008481

      Remove the 4 bolts and engine mounting insulator LH from the transaxle case sub-assembly.

  17. REMOVE REAR ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR

  18. REMOVE REAR ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKET SUB-ASSEMBLY

      Remove the 4 bolts and rear engine mounting bracket sub-assembly from the transaxle housing.

  19. REMOVE NO. 1 TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE BRACKET

      Remove the 2 bolts and No. 1 transmission control cable bracket from the transaxle case sub-assembly.

  20. REMOVE TRANSMISSION CASE PLUG ASSEMBLY

      Remove the transmission case plug assembly from the transaxle housing.

    2. Remove the O-ring from the transmission case plug assembly.

  21. REMOVE WIRE HARNESS CLAMP BRACKET

      Remove the bolt and wire harness clamp bracket from the transaxle case sub-assembly.

  22. REMOVE TORQUE CONVERTER ASSEMBLY


    1. Remove the torque converter assembly from the automatic transaxle assembly.

  23. INSPECT TORQUE CONVERTER ASSEMBLY
